Give a fish/bug/hunting almanac that also includes where to find them.
This will be even more useful if more areas are added down the road. But currently, I am trying to play without googling too much. I think it's more fun to figure things out on your own, but especially with fishing, there isn't really a good method of figuring out what fish you have from what areas.

In the almanac, it'd have fish/bugs/etc that you have caught, and where they tend to spawn. Then it'd have an unknown section, where the uncaught things are blacked out, so you know how many you haven't caught. It wouldn't say where to catch them initially, but you could get hints from the npcs, like the fishing robot, where they hint at a fish being in an area (river, stream, ocean, etc) that you haven't caught yet, and then it'd fill it in with the hint in the almanac (one hint for where it is, and another for what bait to use), to make it easier to track it down. I think it'd also be better for them to give hints for rarer fish the better you get to know them. So get him to 2 friendship, he'll start to give hints for common fish you haven't caught, at 3 friendship, rare fish, 4 friendship, epic fish, etc for however many tiers there are. Could start at 1 friendship if there is enough types of rarity for each of the friendship levels.

Currently, I do this by looking at fish I have already caught or acquired (since I try to keep 3 starred of each), and then hoping I have previously caught one, and hope that there isn't one I'm missing. The almanac would be more fun, and maybe even allow players to get more info on certain fish.

HARD agree that Wiki's SHOULD be obsolete in terms of game mechanics. Wanna fill that thing up with Extended Lore and whatever sure, but I shouldn't have to leave the game to get required information to play the game.

I got a quest from someone for a fish...

Me: Okay game, I WILL do the work to get this fish. Where is it?
Game: Oh I won't tell you go check the wiki
Me: Are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ serious right now?

It tells you N O T H I N G. Not location, not time of day, not bait to use, nothing.

Another thing NOT in the game OR wiki. How MANY crops am I getting from this seed when I plant it? How am I supposed to do math and make the correct choices on what is most profitable for me to plant when not even the game tells me the damn information? Ugh!

.

regarding crops? its a variable there isnt a set number due to weeds taking away from growth ticks, i get differing amounts from crop seeds from 1 to 5 and apple has been from 18 to 24 most all starred some not.
for the ones wanting it to be for the exploration of it? seem to want the game to tell you an awful lot. ive played a lot of mmos in the last 25 years and found few that told you more than basics. you had to look for info from other sources.
There's a difference between making you explore to find info, and making you read the wiki to find it. I want to learn in game how to find the rarer fish. I don't want them to expect me to use wiki for it.

This should have been a thing from day one like most other life sim style games

Yeeeeees, this. It's so annoying, having to flicker between the game and the wiki page.
