A bit of explanation regarding outfits, variants and colors; each 'bundle' has three different outfits, and each outfit has three different color variations. You can buy one outfit (unlocking the three color variations for that outfit), or you can buy all three outfits by purchasing the bundle (ergo unlocking all three outfits and all their color variants). For high end cosmetics that have a special effect, each different type has a different special effect. For example, the new Shadowstalker Bundle has three outfits; Firewalker, Stormrider, and Nightrunner. The Firewalker has fire effects, the Stormrider has water effects, and the Nightrunner has wispy ninjastar effects.
Now with that out of the way, my post;
The cost for a single outfit can range anywhere from $5 ~ $25. They only cost $50 if you attempt to buy the entire bundle of three outfits from the most expensive ones.
.. but let's be real here; while I do feel that the cost for high detail outfits like the Astrologist or the Well Groomed (2550 ea, or 5100 for the bundle of all three) is excessive, even for the bells and whistles of the special effects they give.. you'll most likely only really want ONE specific color variant from one of those three outfits, so you'll only pay $25 to get that one specific outfit.
That.. and this is hardly the most egregious of pricing for cosmetics; the vast majority of single outfits are in the $16 or less range.. this is in line with other games such as FFXIV. The worst offender that comes to mind is Black Desert Online, where cosmetics can start at $15 and exceed as much as $30 or $40 for a single outfit.
At the end of the day though? I wish they'd lower the price on the high end cosmetics to something more like $20 for a single outfit and $40 for the bundle.. but even more so I wish they would get rid of the color variations and just allow you to customize the colors yourself.
That is actually a good idea, get rid of the color variations, add customization option to the wardrobe/Clothes store. It's a nice streamlined function that makes it more fun for the player and not that difficult for the devs.
As for the price, they must seriously consider lowering the prices in general. For those 5100 coin bundles you have to pay the same amount of money as you pay for a brand new game (at least in my country's currency) That, in my book, is not acceptable.
Yeah, you get 3 outfits, but all but one bundle only has the same outfit 3 times with minor variations and color schemes.
No, not every game does this. In fact, many, most, accept actual currency instead of stupid in-game currency, and I prefer those over the in-game fake coin.
I get where you are coming from on the cost of the coins, but I also see where other folks are coming from where there are multiple purchase options. Personally I plan to buy one of the vanity pets, and it requires I purchase either a 450 and 825 pack or over purchasing at the 1700 pack. In realism, if I over purchase that's about 425 coins I will have to go toward another purchase later. It's $16.49. I won't go broke doing the over payment of coins, I will be happy with my vanity pet at my side and I will be supporting a game I enjoy. Would I rather it be in game currency, of course, do I feel like this is a "pay to win" tactic absolutely not. You get no bonus or extra to these items except cosmetics. I think the only ones with a bonus will be upcoming on the new Winter patch that give guaranteed crit hits. That's over powered, but hopefully not everyone will choose this "pay to win" option.
When premium items are expensive, then only the die-hards with tons of free cash will even consider buying them.
