But I have seen devs of other games make questionable design choices based on the feedback they got from there or similar places when it doesn't seem to be much of a secret that only a small fraction of players visits these. Even here on Steam there are like only a few dozen handful or so of people taking part in the discussions - even though a whooping 5k have reviewed the game and according to the storefront's metrics "mostly positive" at that. Many of these people will never voice their opinions here and probably not on Reddit, Twitter, the official Discord and so on either.
I strongly believe that the best way to get a good impression of what an actual majority of people (and not a loud minority) thinks is to ask them >inside< the respective game via ingame polls or whatever.
But just for protocol I think the Steam discussions can be very terrible too. By design. Like the amount of people lying and trolling with deliberately unpopular opinions and hot takes just to farm some jester awards especially when a new game releases is unreal. I wish Valve would do something against this. But engagement is engagement I guess, they probably don't give a f*ck as long as we are active.
EDIT: I only just now saw what some others wrote. The last message on page 1 isn't very helpful. If that's what you're referring to then I guess I understand your anger. And I admit that I overstepped with that basement dweller remark too, even if I stand by what I wrote about it not being aimed towards your person specifically. I will still try to do better in the future. Sorry.

Usually, as mentioned, flow groves show up at 12 mid. Most people will send up flares if they have them. Nice to carry some when in the woods. Use term omw in chat if you find you are not near a grove at that time. As mentioned, people are now usually waiting until 3am, game time before chopping.
I will always check the area if I find a random one that is at least medium sized. Most people are polite and will look for anyone who signals omw. Understanding that if you really need this kind of wood, you may be on the wrong side of Bahari Bay.
I hope this helps. Palium? I do not know what is up with that. It use to be easy to find. Now? Not in common spaces most of my days. If I really need it? I buy it from Hodari. They now have it showing up randomly around the woods but this too is very random. Best bet is still collect a lot of iron/copper/stone so you can reach lvl ten, buy it from Hodari.
Lvl up Hassian to 10? Cheap arrows. Do not waste your palium on them. He sells them for 10 tokens for 10. Just shoot easy to target deers near camp to raise up your lvls and if you need collect pts for tokens.
Why should he learn, bro? He want it to be displayed on the map & have a button "move to grove+chop" attached on "esc" menu for conveniece. Devs also should send him a pizza as an excuse for his previous uncomfortability...
The private place where the good ideas they want to ignore aren't public and can't gain community support. They look at Reddit and Discord just enough to ban people for questioning decisions they aren't willing to reconsider.
