Firstly I will say you are not wrong and everything takes time. Not a completely unusual thing though. The trick with this sort of game is to harvest everything you possibly can and have lots processing in a few smelters and saws at the same time. Make it all long before you need it so when you do need it you have heaps already. You will want many, many of all ingots, clay, stone glass etc so it's probably not possible to have too much around. Some games you stock up and suddenly upgrade a tier and never need any of it but this one uses most ores all game so it's unlikely to be wasted.
I make most of my gold mining. The odd gem that sells for 3000 or more(?) and heaps that sell for several hundred plus selling flint and iron ores is pretty good but soooooo boring to do.
So yeah if you prepare all your stuff before you need it then when you do actually want an upgrade or whatever it's an instant thing instead of waiting hours and hours for it. Plan ahead. It just takes the edge off that aspect of the game which I too find irksome.
I have read posts where people say they easily make 300k per day but I am lucky to grind 50k. I can see that it's a game where money makes money as you unlock more and more crafting permits but wow it must take some coin to get up to the point you can make 300k a day easily.
OP - I have never had this issue and honestly although you claim to have everything I truly suspect that you are making a very simple mistake somewhere. It could be a bug of course. Have you tried destroying the old makeshift one and crafting a new one? Try zoning, relogging, a steam file verify and worst case entirely shut down the game and restart it. That sort of thing can magically make some bugs go away. Good luck. This post is a few days old so if you got it sorted feel free to say what the issue was.
Can't get much simpler than this:

I have not contemplated destroying and rebuilding the watering can, no. I might have to try that, thanks for the suggestion.
