the same old pointless discussion is annoying, because there's nothing to discuss. while people who don't value achievements can simply ignore them and gain no disadvantage from them, people who need and want them are missing an essential part and motivation that can't simply be ignored. that's why your opinion is completely irrelevant, because it may not matter to you whether a game has them or not, but it matters to me.
do we understand each other?
looking at achievements in an atomistic way they are pointless but if you look at it from a holistic approach they add reason to content that is usually overlooked or ignored so functionally they add more enjoyment, more gameplay and direction to the player than what you think.
There is already an achievement section in game if you're mainly looking for goals to be directed towards. Some come with in game displayable unlocks on your housing plot.
For Steam specific achievements I've not seen anything, but I'd imagine if they add them they'll probably just utilize the already existing challenges from the in game achievement section.
Your post is not true.
You played Elder Scrolls Online for 267 hours, which has no Achievements.
You also played Dota 2 for 245 hours.
These are two of your most played games on Steam.
I agree that there should be achievements for Palia. I'd love to see them. But please do not lie to convey your wishes. :)
This comment wins.
Yeah, I don't care about achievements in games, of any kind. I just want to play the game.
It's interesting to see how many people came to this thread to talk about how much they love the dopamine they get from getting them, and would rather the recently gutted dev team spend their time implementing counters for how many deer you've hunted than you know, fixing memory leaks and adding content to the game.
Seriously though, I had no idea people were so into the pointless meta game of achievements that they'd lie about how much they care about games having them.
this seems a bit condescending, is there really something so wrong with someone enjoying having a little virtual trophy wall to show off that they did something they enjoyed? You don't have to be belittling by referring to them as dopamine addicts. It can just be something that someone enjoys and would like to have. That it's not a priority for you, that's great, it don't have to be. But I don't see any reason to be demeaning of others who would enjoy this, like myself. I think that if it is a low cost to add, they should totally add it. I'm actually a bit surprised that Valve don't offer to assist developers in adding this feature, maybe they do, I don't know.
All that being said, if this is not something you care about, then create a thread about something you do care about and talk positively about that. If what yo u want is a great idea and get's a lot of support, this will obviously get pushed off for the new great idea that you had. No need to degrade the wants of others. my 2 cents, cheers!
