That model is not sustainable with a game like this, this is not fortnite. We barely see other players, and nothing drives me to care about my appearance enough to buy said items. I barely play fortnite with my kids, yet own a ton of skins and other items like emotes as I interact with others.

Here i barely interact and am transferred to a new server every time i leave my home. They will do something to make money when they realize they do not have a game that drives cosmetic sales. A few will buy but the majority need more interaction than this to spend fortnite type of cash.

game with either die out or find a proper monetization method sometime in the future.

I like the game, I have no issue with charging for cosmetics. However, as someone who would sooner watch a Robbie Williams concert* than buy an in game cosmetic, I can't financially contribute to the game.

I don't know how free to play games can solve that. DLC expansions you don't get without paying for? Black Desert Online charges for the game up front IIRC, and frequently as it on sale, but while there's a tonne of cash shop stuff, you can play it free basically forever. However, IIRC I did but the base game on sale so did contribute in that way.

*There were other options but perhaps gruesome enough to get my account banned, I figured the thought of watching him 'sing' his 'music' would give the appropriate sense of pure horror.

There's more than one default outfit.
and all of the ones in the store look like dog water.
There are a few outfits that I like, but the rest... It seems like some of the outfits are designed for players to troll people, like the Afternoon Tea Outfit. The only people I've ever seen wear it are males with beards.

The game is not sustainable.
Not really, unless they start releasing better outfits, or make it so pieces from one outfit goes with other outfits so you can mix-and-match. I'm not interested in anything they've released recently.

Incorrect. They started charging for glider skins as well, and were asking for suggestions on how to further monetize.

the catch is that this is a single player / coop game pretending to be a mmo, so you dont own anything, you lose your house and map when they inevitably shut down due to poor engagement. You lose your money etc.

Hahaha I forgot about that, and I own a few of them, thank you!

Been playing it long before steam release, it's totally free, no pay to win features, you can only buy cosmetics ingame for real currency.

The sheer fact that beyond the starting 'clothes' you can pick at character select.... you cannot get ANY OTHER CLOTHING after that for free... for gold... it's baffling really.

I found the game to be extremely boring when I gave it a try but from what I've read I think I was experiencing some sort of bug that was blocking content, cause I wandered around for a couple hours and couldn't find a single thing to do besides pick plants and catch bugs.

Genuine question - how would you prefer monetisation for the game to work? Would you prefer to pay a set price beforehand, or would you rather something else cost money?
Because we all know, nothing is ever completely free, and charging for cosmetics seems to be the go-to in most games.

Paid cosmetics and earnable cosmetics can go hand in hand. They do not have to be exclusive.

You can earn free cosmetics through the Recruit a Friend program already so it wouldn't hurt them to add even more options to obtain them. Seasonal events, Twitch drops, and side quests are some of the ways they could add additional cosmetics.
