Can't even open to startup page!
After I played the game for almost 90 hours, I came back to the game, a couple days after the newest update, and suddenly I can't even start the game anymore. I've shut down all anti-virus that I could, deleted a lot af game (because maybe the lack of space??), I even tried starting the game as an administrator.... But nooooo, EVERYTHING is not working. I'm stuck at watching the startup page, with the people, and sight of Palia....
Anyone else having same issue??? What should/can I do??? This sucks sooooo bad!!!!

Can you be a bit clearer about what is happening? Title says can't even open to startup but you say you're stuck on the startup page while seeing the people and sight of Palia?

Yes. Normally when you start the game, it shows the hills, a couple of people (one with a backpack), and the sight of Kilima, and on the left site, a greyish area, that says "Click anywhere to start", and where you can also exit from the game - but it doesn't even show the greyish area anymore, so I can't even exit the game, or start it, so I have to make a "bypass" or what you call it, and force a "Close program" on the game. It is really annoying, and I even tried uninstalling the game and nothing works........

Ah, OK. Haven't heard of this before. I'd suggest contacting support.palia.com. They've generally been quick to respond, though the recent layoffs may have affected response times.

If you're really desperate and on Windows 10/11 you could:

1. Open File Explorer.
2. Navigate to C:\Users\NKitzy\AppData\Local\Palia\Saved\Config\WindowsClient.
3. Press Ctrl + A to select all, then Shift + Delete to permanently delete everything in the folder.
4. Open Steam and navigate to Palia in Library.
5. Right-click Palia and select Properties...
6. Select Installed Files on the left.
7. Click Verify the integrity... on the right.
8. Launch Palia (via Steam) after verifying the game files and maybe it'll work?

"Layoffs" means they got fired but "in a nice way". So there is no bad rep on their sheet and they should theoretically have it easier to find a new job. Nowadays if people get "fired" it means they did something bad. But if they get "laid off", they didn't do anything wrong, the company just decided for various reasons that they don't need that person anymore.

I doubt anyone is going to explain it. It's possible that now the game is running and in a fairly playable state with much of it sorted out there are a lot of design and creation people that just are not needed. It's either in a different stage of development where it needs people for different things like quest creation and world building for new areas etc but not so much for character animations and that sort of stuff.
They might be financially stuffed or all I know but if it is just changing development phase then I am not surprised certain roles are not needed anymore.
I work in mining and when the development phase is done those crews move on and the production crews remain for a long time afterwards. Starts with development, then has dev and prod and finally just production crews. Same but different with games maybe? It's no reflection on the workers and quite normal. Their roles simply end and if the company has no role elsewhere for you then /wave.
Or they have been mismanaged and are broke.
Guess we shall find out in time.

I doubt I can solve it for you. It's likely a genuine bug of some sort.
Since you asked I will just quickly list a few go to things I do if games don't start.

After reading this thread I did start it up and to see and mine hung at the first screen for ages before it proceeded to the part where the left goes grey and you can press a button to start. It's always done this so don't stress but usually it's been a lot quicker so maybe your PC is so much better that you never noticed it before. I thought of it as a loading screen. I could be wrong.

Firstly I change it between fullscreen to either windowed or fullscreen windowed or the opposite depending what mode it is in at startup. I find some games do it when it first tries to show 3D graphics but I don't know if this is what this game is doing since that first splashscreen is kind of 3D isn't it? Might need to go looking in the games config files (usually with your save games dir) and change some values. Look for "fullscreen 0" or 1 and swap the values or true/false. Whatever. Might have all 3 resolution options and you might want to swap all values to be safe. Backup the file first.

Then you have the standard drivers comment. Update those properly.

Then you have all your other generic fixes that I really don't understand where you need to change things like 'disable fullscreen optimisations in the PaliaClientSteam file properties in the games dir. Where you set to run as admin.
Then there is your pagefile settings which I know nothing at all about but here is a random google link to something that might give you an idea depending on what operating system you are on. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/how-to-manage-virtual-memory-pagefile-windows-10,36929.html _ I have no clue about this site it's just an example and I also have no inkling if it will help. Seems to help some games.

The real problem is that it worked previously so you gotta ask yourself 'what changed' and I have no answer for you.

Those are just absolutely generic and merely possible solutions. I have not seen or looked into this glitch with this game which is why I did not comment earlier on it.

Google your problem.

If you fiddle then backup first.

Good luck.

I really appreciate your time to answer this!!
I will try and see IF the game screen with Kilima is just a loading screen.
Thanks!!

Sorry my attempted solution didn't work. Palia just really isn't worth reformatting & reinstalling Windows 10/11 for at this point either. Probably never was...

Hopefully you hear back from Palia support and are given a proper solution if you're still willing to play.

We had the same issue described here, looked everywhere for a solution and didn't find one UNTIL someone suggested that it could be that no active sound device was present - after we plugged in some headphones (we don't have any speakers at the moment) - works as expected.
