Cooking
As it is in the game right now, cooking is ridiculous. It's difficult and expensive and time consuming. You lose a lot of money cooking, both from making the food that doesn't net a profit, and from the burnt meals you fail to cook. Currently the only use for cooking is for focus points, which is useful, or for gifting to villagers/bundles. I can't help but feel that the cooking skill could be so much better.

What are some changes or improvements you guys would like to see with the cooking aspect of the game?

A dish that nets profit even when cooking alone is Crab pot pie. It's also rather simple to make, so chances of burning it should be very very low.

Most dishes are made to encourage you to cook with others. Suddenly, if you only have to add one ingredient, every dish can make a profit.

I love cooking, but I am also in an active community where people cook together at least once a day :'') I don't think it needs any changes, but that's mostly because I don't ever cook alone.

cooking is very profitable, expecially in parties, stuff like cakes(with others) gives good cash.
I have never failed to cook a meal, maybe first time while learning it.
One thing i think that would improve cooking at least for solo would be if you could prep some of the prep ingredients like chopped veg or bread so cooking dishes would feel more chill. Although I do like the cooking I have done so far although I do feel it is the least chill activity in the game, so i mostly just spam hearty veg soup for focus.

I've given up on actually cooking anything.

During my weekly activity, I do the fishing first and save up all the fish I catch, then I just cook 10 grilled fish on the campfire (I either sell the grilled fish or put them in the worm farms).

My focus food is from jamming up the apples. With 9 trees and 4 preserve jars (or whatever they're called) I make enough apple jam that I never run out.

Oh wow I had no idea you could grow apple trees. Can you buy their seeds? I dont think Ive seen it anywhere.

Done plenty of cooking (been playing Palia off Steam since Open Beta started last year), don't find it overly difficult, you just gotta, as they say, "git good" at it. *shrugs* Not really a problem anymore once you progress through the game and start having enough coins so that buying those ingredients you can't grow or farm doesn't break the bank anymore. So far, I've managed to make all my cooking recipes on my own but, as with a lot of stuff in the game, working together with other players is encouraged when cooking, too. They want people to play TOGETHER, not AGAINST each other ...

You get some from a quest, and you can also buy them from the gardening guild store.

Pretty sure you need the medals and level 10 to buy them from the gardener. I suggest you turn all your apples into seeds for quite a while before you use any for actual cooking. Same with blueberries but they are a heck of a lot cheaper.
I've gotten to the point where I just gave up on cooking entirely and just resort to pickled potatoes because it takes no interaction aside from the basic gardening

I think the star ones give over 200 for so much less effort. I do the quest cooking so I know what to do and how but for general everyday usage I just pickle stuff too. It needs to start giving decent buffs and not just focus. Things like an increased chance to find gems that lasts a couple of hours.

There's some recipes that give buffs to fishing but they're pretty garbage. Also why the hell does one single harvest of apples take away a third of my focus bar?

You lose 1 point of focus for every 1 point of bonus xp you gain. Apple trees give you a lot of xp, so they take a lot of focus.

P.S. There are some furniture recipes that give you more than 1,000 XP, so they will completely drain your focus bar.

That's completely dumb.

But also explains why my gardening level is over 50

Which part is dumb?

Focus gives you a bonus to your XP.

For example, if you have a 50% focus bonus and you gain 10 XP, you get a bonus of 5 for a total of 15 XP. Your focus will go down by the same amount of bonus XP you gained, so you lose 5 focus.
