And now my backlog is massively suffering for it.
It's cozy, fun, and my ADHD brain can jump from one task to the next whenever it wishes. It's one of the most stress-free games ive played in a while and I love it for that.
compared to other games of similar genre, this game really is stress-free, no stamina, no curfew...just play at your own pace..
- Lack of achievement-based gameplay; if you like to play a game and not feel rewarded or like you're achieving a goal, this is it.
- Very little in the way of meaningful content. End-game is resource grinding and the same fetch quests for every character.
- Dishonest company. Multiple mass layoffs, mismanagement of funds, incompetent leaders, and a blatant disregard for accessibility and inclusion which they tried so hard to claim they were gonna be.
- Buggy mess. They have a habit a breaking more than they fix every update. There are bugs in this game that have been present since 2021 and others that keep recurring and coming back after certain updates.
I like Palia. I wouldn't have two accounts with over 400 hours of gameplay split between them if I didn't. My main concern is that the main gameplay loop (farming, fishing, bug catching, etc) is so far disconnected from the main storyline loop (exploring temples and solving puzzles). It's like two very different games smashed together into one and neither one complements the other (i.e. what you do in one has no major impact in what you do in another).
I've noticed end gamers doing exactly the same thing im doing 3 days into the game, just chopping tree's... so i think, its a beautiful game, completely stress free, crafted extremely well by an amazingly talented team, it just lacks content at the moment.
And it can be a little grindy to get the stuff you want. It's kind of a chill-out game you can play after a stressful session of Elden Ring or something.
I went in mainly hoping for a Rune Factory, but multiplayer, experience. I'd say the game has mostly captured the basics. Since it's a live service game it always got some update on the horizon to look forward to or check back in on later if you're taking a break.
For instance opt in PvE combat was discussed in the lead up to the games release.
Now if you prefer more typical MMORPGs I can see the game being a miss for you.
That's not entirely true.
It took me several hundred hours to learn that this company has no idea what they're doing and can't be trusted with this game.
It has potential, but in the hands of S6 it's going to shut down within the next year, if not the next few months.
doesnt take several hundred hours to see if this is a game for you or not, what change you mind after so long time?
I was part of the very first testing group of a couple hundred people. At first I was like a lot of people are now: "it's a test, things will improve, surely they'll add this feature in, etc." but after being a part of the development cycle for over three years, seeing them actively *remove* parts of the game that encouraged cooperation and alternative styles of play, continuously change numbers around to look like they're doing something without adding in any meaningful content... All I can do is try to warn people who are coming in fresh that S6 clearly has no idea what they're doing and can't be trusted to make this game a success.
