Eye of the Storm - I can't jump far enough!

I'm way up on the highest tower, trying to get the key, but I have to jump to three more stone platforms to get there. I already jumped the three to get here, so it isn't a coordination problem. But now there are three more. I watched someone else do it and she used the glider and landed as easy as you please. I have tried everything. Getting a running start, jumping, gliding - I always, always miss that first stone. Do I have to wait until my character is stronger somehow? I'm on a PC and using an XBox Controller.

Once you jump into an airstream and deploy your glider stop pressing forward. If you keep pressing forward then it actually moves you out of the airstream and you can't go as far, high, etc.

Thank you so much! There is no airstream in this situation, but I am certain you are right about the glider mechanics! This explains so much.
