I don't understand the need for every game that has fishing to turn it into a mini-game. Just let me cast my line, wait a few seconds, and reel in a fish. No tapping to the rhythm, no keeping the fish between the lines, no roulette (whoever thought of a roulette wheel as a fishing mini-game needs to have his head examined), no etc, etc, etc.
If you find one, let me know.
My Time at Sandrock has fishing but it's "sand fishing" where you have to aim and throw a trap, more akin to how bug catching / hunting work in Palia. There's still rarer "king" fish but they're not really necessary for anything.
If they added such a system, you would be done with the game very quickly as there is no endgame to speak of. Once you've filled those bundles, and don't really care about minmaxing things, you might as well uninstall and play something with more meat.
1. If you don't start the mini-game if it is not a fish you need.
2. Canceling the cast does not use your bait (it will damage the rod and hook though)
3. You will get the same fish on each cast. If the fish is something you want you can let it hook again.
4. #3 allows you to check the bubble spots and still get a star quality fish.
5. You can add a hook to your rod while the cast is out but cannot take it off. Adding after you know what fish is on the hook will save your hook durability.
6. Wiki where and when fish spawn.
7. Very fish are hard to catch. Only the epic ones are actually hard.
what helped me complete my fishing portion of bundles was to use the palia map app from overwolf. It's a real-time map that shows up while you play (if you launch from steam it will auto open which I think is super nice)
You can then select a fish you're looking for in the menu (like the rainbow unicorn or whatever) and then every time you cast your fishing net you have a chance at getting a different fish. The app will show you when you've caught the fish you want by displaying the fish icon on the minimap. I just kept recasting until I scored the fish I needed.
Not a fix at all but its something that made fishing tolerable for me.
All I have left for the temples is the 5 epic fish, and I've been poking at trying to get them for months. I'm considering abandoning the temple quest altogether because of how infuriating it is to waste my entire day looking for a single fish.
The rng for the recipes is one of the things ruining my fun for it, its one of the last things I need to do but even trying everyday for an hour or two in-game each in-game day or so does not help with how much of a chore it becomes, never less the "rare" fish never appearing due to the rng luck
I loved the fishing at first but its just ruined with how it slows you down with the gatekeeping of other items/quests
I can find bugs everywhere and in turn find rare ones often, but I'm not going to stand there for 15 seconds to catch some ~1% chance fish. Just show us the odds at least.
Don't spend your entire life trying to catch fish. Do your weekly 30, and if you don't get it, wait until next week. You don't need to rush to complete anything in this game.
The problem isn't feeling rushed to finish. It's that the game is built around a very chill, easy-to-manage vibe, and there are tasks you can complete and actually accomplish; except one specific task, where the results are so utterly divorced from the effort you put in that it almost feels like a punishment for trying to complete it.
