Toxicity
Hello Palia Community

This is my first community post, but I felt it needed to be done. I have been playing this game with my gf for some weeks now, we are pretty new, but we had been enjoying a lot. Today we went to our first grove, and she started chopping the flow trees. We did not know this was not okay but nobody cared. Everyone was quick to judge and rash, saying she was impolite a bad player and reporting her. When trying to explain everyone said that it was obvious it should not have been done and that these were bad excuses. As a result, and because of this toxicity she does not want to play the game anymore. Not everyone knows the rules in the community, not everyone is comfortable with having an online chat with strangers, and people should receive at least the benefit of the doubt. I hope this message makes the community reflect upon how they treat others specially new players. Palia is supposed to be a chill relaxing game to enjoy after having a bad day not to make people feel sad.

Best and goodbye

it happens. There are unwritten rules of "ethics" for tree chopping gatherers, but too bad for them. If people are so angry to miss out on a couple of logs, then they're playing the wrong game. more logs for you, less logs for them and that's funny. Bet you they didn't quit over it and hopefully you don't either.

Because these aren't "rules", just a common behavior. Trust me when I say, you've only scraped the surface here. Things get a lot uglier once you peel off the scab.

I play on Switch and the closest I've ever seen to rudeness or ugliness is when people post in chat in languages other than English. And that's entirely on me for being a weak-minded monoligual. That's not even any kind of rude or ugly.

Back when i use to play when the game came out on epic. I noticed there was griefers who would hurry up and chop the flow trees and mine the Palium Ore quick and not tell anyone. So its not surprising there is a bit of Toxicity with the flow trees.

But if you can get past it the game is quite fun to play.

If I see a tree, I cut that tree down. Nobody has the right to say you're a bad player just because you chop down a tree.

The Palia community consists of 99% bad players.

The pallium spot is besieged by farmers and you have no chance of getting pallium. Nobody bothers. And Pallium is just as rare as the pretty purple trees.

My advice to you:

Play the game with your girlfriend, help each other because you can't expect any help from the Palia community. But not from the Puplishers either.

If you see a tree and you can cut it down, THEN CUT IT DOWN.
Don't wait for other players, because everyone with a good ax will fell the trees alone.

Don't worry, put the annoying players on your block list and enjoy the game for yourself.

Funnily enough, 99% of the players I've encountered have been great. They're friendly, helpful, and communicative. That 99% of players are happy to stand around in groups of 12+ waiting until an agreed time to cut down flow trees to make sure that everyone who has expressed interest in getting some of that flow-infused wood has a chance to get there and get a hit in.

I can't comment on people calling out palium nodes because, now that they behave like most other forageables, people don't tend to wait around before mining them. More players than not, though, tend to call them out and flare them for others to find.

All that being said, I'm not trying to say that your experiences of 'bad players' is a lie, just that it feels like the claim I quoted seems a bit excessive. Or you just end up having REALLY bad luck regarding the players you encounter. I'm sure there are a number of 'bad players', there always is with MMOs, I just haven't experienced anywhere NEAR that number of them.

If anyone yells at you for "Taking something" just laugh at them. Don't give them the time of day, take whatever you want, whenever you want it.

Yeah, the flow tree system doesn't exactly encourage the cutesy farmer life vibe they were going for. Every day I play I see people throwing around insults over the smallest of trees getting cut down.

Hopefully they change them to be like other resources. Otherwise their own game systems are going to foster toxic communities, because they already are.

I lol'ed at how true this is.

Palia is a game made for people that don't play video games. If there's ever any form of skill expression or effort required for anything, S6 removes it.

Except the grind for flow trees and Palium. Gotta keep that grind in so people keep playing their game, because there's nothing else to do after about 20 hours.

The solution would be so easy. They just need to increase the spawns and spawn rate, but they don't do it! And why?
Because people would then progress much faster and would be finished with the little content so quickly that the number of players would continue to decline. The Steam release is the last attempt to get money out of people's pockets. The game will be over in 1 year at the latest, with luck it will be put into a kind of "maintenance mode".

if it makes you feel any better they have some sort of AI that helps you find people you might get along with more. if i remember correctly.

If you can interact with stuff in-game, then do it. The whole man-made 'ethic' is just stupid. If a tree is created to be chopped off by the developer, then you have every right to chop it down.

This sounded rather interesting. Never heard of an AI that helped find people.

Any more info you could share? Tried to search web but couldn’t find anything
