Clutch question
Hi, just played for the first time ; was checking settings

Shift down is B, shift up X
Clutch A

What's the proper way to shift in this game and is there some type of mechanic for the shift to go smoother?>

Right now I've been letting go of gas and then holding clutch + shift (A/B) at same time, is this what the games expecting? Figured the clutch should be a dedicated button that isn't where the thumb already is; like swap handbrake and clutch (left bumper)

You're doing it right, more or less. The clutch is basically instantaneously activated magically, so there's no need to worry about timing the clutch release and gear shift, you can press both at the same time.
There's also an option in the Game settings if I recall correctly to swap the shifter buttons to L1+R1, this leaves the Clutch on A, puts the handbrake on B and Look Back on X if that's more your flavour.

yeah, i use r1 and l1 for shifting, but there is a bit of timing. if you do it correctly it shifts smoothly and quickly without revving the engine on upshifts. for me the trick is to hold the clutch a bit longer than the shift button. but thats a tiny bit

What happens if i don't use clutch? Will it hurt transmission?

it will auto clutch, which is a bit slower than using the clutch yourself perfectly

The only thing i use the Clutch 'A' for is 'Clutch Kicking' to force my rpm's higher.
