Windows 10 issue

Game crashes after start on windows 10. Compatibility modes don't work either. All updates installed.

This is an old game but it can be played on windows 10 computers although it is not very stable in my experience. I managed to play more than 30 hours of the game on my windows 10 64-bit OS laptop but it regularly kept crashing to desktop with a "Can't restore all surfaces (0x8876024B)" error.

What solved the problem for me was running the game in Windows XP (service pack 2) compatibility mode which eradicated the game crashes but as you have tried that already the only other things I can suggest are to try launching the game directly from the game's executable in the Etherlords II game folder to see if that makes a difference. You could also try playing in windowed mode rather than fullscreen as that has been known to help prevent game crashes too.
