Probably because free to play with microtransactions to buy boosters is too profitable
I agree, though, it's such a shame that it's all so PvP and microtransaction based. There are still some decent strategy titles out there, but it feels like they're getting harder to find.
Even though they have interesting ideas and decent gameplay,
it's tedious to play because of ill balance which build around microtransactions.
I was also looking for something similar but I did not come across modern analogs, which mix a card game, upgrading heroes, exploration and global strategy in equal proportions, where each element organically complements the other. And actually you buy summoning creatures and spells, not cards. I like that this game maintain fantasy disguise instead of the the obvious card game, where you buy cards.
In modern games, most often there is a big emphasis on collecting cards and playing a card game, where story and exploration are just nominal.
Granted, I can see why you pointed it out, the battles are very like Etherlords, but the part I am interested in is having a world to explore and unlock cards directly through battles or having in world shops, story etc.
