Does this include the GBA ROM?

seems like this Steam release is a PC port of the game, but will it still include the ROM? I'd love to purchase the game on itch.io but due to reasons, I can only buy games on Steam. I'd still want to play the game on actual hardware so it would be nice if the game's files included the GBA ROM for those that want it.

I just bought this on Itch. The PC version over there is simply a packed up GBA ROM with the MGBA emulator running through RetroArch. You can browse to the "data" folder and the ROM is right there. I hashed the ROM file included in the PC version and the "real" GBA version and confirmed they are the same with no modifications or tuning for PC.
If the Steam version is the same (and isn't encrypted or anything) then you should be able to pull the ROM out of the game folder the same way.
Since they say the Steam version is coming soon I suspect it will be the same. Writing a native PC port would be a big project!

Hi! The version on itch is an emulator with the ROM, but the Steam version will be a fully native port - we can probably include the ROM in the files just for those players that want it though. :)

Waiting for my physical gba cart to come in and I can offer only praise for what I've seen so far playing the rom on my Analogue pocket. I had no idea it was going to look, sound, and play as good as it does.

Just discovered this game, wishlisted already. I'd love an included ROM file, I got one of those retro focused handhelds for playing stuff on. Always happy to load up another game I was able to get from Steam or Itch, but prefer Steam when at all possible.

Please do include the ROM. I whant a GBA version of your game so much, but i can't purchase it beacuse the payment methods are not avalible in my country. Steam will be the great way to buy your game for me!

ROM is included in the Windows download on Steam as
.\GoodboyGalaxy\GBA_ROM\goodboy.gba

Thanks for the community contribution. My main issue with the current store description post-launch is that it's not fully transparent that it DOES indeed come with the GBA ROM, but at least for now if you scroll down for now the top review states as much. This might confuse future players for a bit. I don't think they'll be able to state "Game Boy Advance" or anything linking it to a Nintendo system with copyrighted terms anywhere there but maybe somehow they can clarify.. it could be helpful! It's a sick bonus for those who don't have it yet/weren't Kickstarter backers

Edit: Yeah, at least you can rest easier knowing if you've already bought it elsewhere that you extra-supported some great devs who spent years developing a cool, unique game for multiple platforms.. but it's a different story if you bought the physical edition which has only been plagued by issues (at least they've gotten the ROM already) 😅
