Prominence uses the resolution of the desktop to determine the resolution for the game. Unfortunately, the game's maximum resolution is 1920x1080. Sorry. :(

So near as I can tell anyone with a desktop resolution higher than 1920x1080 finds the game unplayable? You're asking for a lot of refunds to occur then if you're going to limit it like that, aren't you?

I mean, I'm in the options screen as I write this and I assume there is an accept button off screen that I can't see. If other buttons are going to be missing during the game then why would I continue to play? :steamfacepalm:

Actually, it's more accurate to describe it as an aspect ratio limitation. The game will support some aspect ratios, such as 16:9 and 16:10, at higher resolutions.

For example, I personally play and run the game at 1920x1200 (16:10), where the game will display 1920x1080 letterboxed, but also ran it recently on a 2048x1152 (16:9) display full-screen without issues.

In the case of very wide aspect resolution displays (such as the 3400x1400) described in the original post, however, the game is unlikely to cope natively.

You may be able to get it to run correctly if you can change the Windows display settings to a 16:9 multiplier of your screen's height (with black bars on the sides) before launching Prominence. Certainly not ideal, but it might work.

I would love to try something like Flawless Widescreen ( https://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/ ) or something similar, but I don't yet have an ultrawide monitor.

Prominence wasn't designed to handle those screens because that aspect ratio didn't exist when development began. (Even now, gamers with those monitors represent a very small percentage of Steam users.) If you are in that very exclusive group, then I can only say that I wish we could have accommodated you. We had no idea such screens would become available.

If engines like Unity and Unreal had been freely available when we started development like they are today, this issue might not be present; they have good teams constantly working to evolve and improve their engine tech. We didn't have that luxury. We had one programmer and a dream.

Wish I had more of a Christmas miracle for you!

You're right. I was a little annoyed when I wrote that; I had just bought it, downloaded it, and had a few miinutes available to play it (today, of all days) so was a bit frustrated when I found I couldn't. Not the first time it's happened, either, and probably not the last.

Have a Merry Christmas, and a happty New Year.

3 screens here and can only see center, I went into 640x480 to see if I could window it but there's no option for that, guess I need to return it also.

In fact you also f'ed up the UHD (aka 4K aka 3840x2160) resolution. Which is EXACTLY the double of FullHD (and therefor the same aspect ratio). It might be easy to scale it with an integer scaler (2x). You unfortunately don't provide the path and rough structure to the config file or the registry setting for self support. So to make it clear: your support suxx!

EDIT: For everyone else with this problem -> go to the compatibilty settings of prominence.exe and force the scaler to "application".

EDIT2: The dev wasn't happy with my missing politeness. gosh.

Thank you for sharing your findings about running Prominence in higher resolutions. I hope it helps other players!

I look forward to trying those settings when I get an ultra-wide or 4k monitor to see how many higher resolution settings and aspect ratios might be usable, and I'll certainly make some kind of guide for cases where they can work as an effective means to play the game.

My previous post in this thread may give you some insight about the game's development and why higher resolutions are not natively supported.

Please be mindful of Steam's rules when posting on these forums, specifically the section that reads
When providing feedback, posting information, or discussing a product in Steam, whether it’s negative or positive, please make sure you are being relevant, constructive and polite.

I would be polite if you would investigate the problem. I understand you don't own a 4K display for now which doesn't make it easier, but on the other hand it didn't look like you even tried to find a solution beside telling why you didn't support higher resolutions. The time is working against you as UHD is getting more and more common.

I cannot play the game. It launches full-screen across all three of my monitors, no window. I have a triple-monitor NVidia graphics card set at 5760 X 1080 on {(3) 1980 X 1080 monitors}. All that is visible on launch is the planet and "Prominence." Both are stretched sideways and look very low-res, the planet looks like a flattened egg. There is nothing to click on, and nothing on my keyboard has any effect.

I have had the same problem with other Steam games, but not all Steam games. I never see the problem mentioned by other Steamers. So there is likely a very simple solution that an ignorant, non-computer guy like me does not know, but everyone else does know...can anyone help a non-IT gamer?

Note: After reading the above discussion posts, I see it is a developer issue, so I totally agree with this message:

These problems are easily avoided by reading the system requirements and what a game does, and does not support.
Problem solved.
I am sorry you don't get to play a great game though.
