I mean, I'm in the options screen as I write this and I assume there is an accept button off screen that I can't see. If other buttons are going to be missing during the game then why would I continue to play?
For example, I personally play and run the game at 1920x1200 (16:10), where the game will display 1920x1080 letterboxed, but also ran it recently on a 2048x1152 (16:9) display full-screen without issues.
In the case of very wide aspect resolution displays (such as the 3400x1400) described in the original post, however, the game is unlikely to cope natively.
You may be able to get it to run correctly if you can change the Windows display settings to a 16:9 multiplier of your screen's height (with black bars on the sides) before launching Prominence. Certainly not ideal, but it might work.
I would love to try something like Flawless Widescreen ( https://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/ ) or something similar, but I don't yet have an ultrawide monitor.
Prominence wasn't designed to handle those screens because that aspect ratio didn't exist when development began. (Even now, gamers with those monitors represent a very small percentage of Steam users.) If you are in that very exclusive group, then I can only say that I wish we could have accommodated you. We had no idea such screens would become available.
If engines like Unity and Unreal had been freely available when we started development like they are today, this issue might not be present; they have good teams constantly working to evolve and improve their engine tech. We didn't have that luxury. We had one programmer and a dream.
Wish I had more of a Christmas miracle for you!
Have a Merry Christmas, and a happty New Year.
EDIT: For everyone else with this problem -> go to the compatibilty settings of prominence.exe and force the scaler to "application".
EDIT2: The dev wasn't happy with my missing politeness. gosh.
I look forward to trying those settings when I get an ultra-wide or 4k monitor to see how many higher resolution settings and aspect ratios might be usable, and I'll certainly make some kind of guide for cases where they can work as an effective means to play the game.
My previous post in this thread may give you some insight about the game's development and why higher resolutions are not natively supported.
Please be mindful of Steam's rules when posting on these forums, specifically the section that reads
I have had the same problem with other Steam games, but not all Steam games. I never see the problem mentioned by other Steamers. So there is likely a very simple solution that an ignorant, non-computer guy like me does not know, but everyone else does know...can anyone help a non-IT gamer?
Note: After reading the above discussion posts, I see it is a developer issue, so I totally agree with this message:
Problem solved.
I am sorry you don't get to play a great game though.
