How is your own music handled?
This game seems to potnetially hit my buttons, and the fact it supports FLAC unlike some OTHER games (*cough*) is a major must-have for me to even consider it.

...but I've yet to find another game that has music support as well implimented as Beat Hazard. Being able to simply add my entire library and have the game choose randomly is a HUUUUUGE plus.
Now I'll grant that a lot of music just plain won't work but still, with the amount of music I have I just find myself unable to really choose what to use so allowing randomness (or even just a playlist which at least I can randomize myself) would be a great thing.

So....how DOES the game handle your music?

I'm not sure how helpful my response will be, but here goes nothing. I've never played Beat Hazard so I can't compare to that. The game does work well in general with most songs I've tried. I have yet to play a song that was way off or unplayable. Some songs obviously work better than others though.

I don't think it supports playlists, although you could make your own by putting songs in a folder together. More on that in a bit. The music selection screen has Recent Files (exactly what it sounds like... songs you've played recently), Favorite Files (although I'm not actually sure how you save a song as a favorite as I haven't done that), My Music (your default music folder), and your drives (C:, etc.). You navigate through the folders and while it's not the greatest navigation system, it's functional. There's also an option to play all songs in that folder. If you hit p while a folder is open, it'll load up the first song, and when you're done with that, it'll load the second one and keep loading the rest of the folder. I guess you could set up playlists that way if you wanted to, but it's more effort than it should take.

As far as I know, there is no random from within a folder option. It seems like something that should definitely be there, but I don't know. Maybe it's planned for the future?

The game supports .m3u playlists, they will show as "[playlist] name" in the folder list when you browse using the Music Selection menu.

I know this is an old thread, but since it's mine, I thought I'd bump it since it's on sale and I'd like to potentially buy it -- has anything changed? Or is track selection still completely manual? It's not a HUGE deal breaker, and as I said above having FLAC support is the only thing I 100% need, but it'd be nice to have....I guess you could call it 'lazy mode'.

The game supports flac, but does not support Cue sheets.
and I have every album in one file. Imagine that I want to play track
from the middle of the album ... or from the end...

How do you make .m3u files? Do you just need an external music player that can do it for you? Also, would it be possible to get the game to work with steam's music player?

Yes the huge majority of media players should be able to create/organize M3U playlist (i think it's Winamp's default format).

I will look into the Steam Music player API, I haven't taken a look at it yet.
