FFS. "Wake them" is a voiced line, so no it's not as simple as scripting the appropriate text. In the unvoiced flashback literally right before this line, they use he/she to describe the player character. It's really no different than the King saying "child" of Ortega instead of son/daughter in the very next scene, or Patty using "sibling" instead of brother/sister right after that. They are all non-gendered lines to work for everyone so they didn't have to record multiple versions. Chalk it up to SE being cheap or lazy if you want, but that's all it is. No one is trying to insult your intelligence or erase your identity or whatever.

Huh? I'm referring to more than one person. Singular they/them only makes sense to use when people are referring to a person that's not known. "Who's backpack is this? I wonder where they are?" You could also just simply say "I wonder where he or she is?". If someone is obviously referring to a group of people, then it's "I wonder where they are?".

I thought different combinations of the same two variables is still considered binary?
For example in coding, 00111010111 is still part of a binary system, so why is XXY suddenly not part of a binary system?

Singular "they" is a replacement for "he or she" because it's less cumbersome. It's used to say you don't know the gender of the person you're referring to. That is how it's been used since 1375 and you know it.

Plenty of people think it's weird, as is evidenced by the fact that people keep calling it out as weird. The word has never been used in this specific way by writers until just recently. It was always considered to be an awkward and incorrect usage.
