I want to hear what he has to say.
Thanks for this info. I bought dragon quest 3 on switch. Not this version which censors stuff like crosses and costumes, even though no one ever complained about it. The devs are only video laughing, mocking it, saying how difficult it is working with America and more.
The company releases a pr statement and all the usual media jumps on it and pretends we didn't see the video. I posted it here a few times. On my phone or I'd post it again.

I was literally going to say this. The GBC version is absolutely great, it's 100% DQ3 in a portable format. But concessions had to be made in the visual department, and that really hurts the overall experience. Still worth playing and still enjoyable. But the 'better' version of the old school ones? It is absolutely not.
I'd argue that the NES version showed more of its age regarding some things (like the difficulty, balance and mechanics).
The SNES is great but once again it hasn't officially released in the west therefore if someone wants to play legit on the real hardware they'll have to know Japanese a bit.
Also big thumb down for the removal of the intro with Ortega in the remake.
No, the graphics are an absolutely integral part of what made Dragon Quest what it was. Akira Toriyama's art style has literally been a major play in what caused DQ's popularity.
When you are in battle near mountains, you can see mountains with an art style that literally shows the ame types of mountains that you see in DragonBall. It adds to the experience.
When it comes to SNES vs GBC discussion, it is ABSOLUTELY a downgrade on the GBC. The game remains great, no debates there from me. But it does not change that objective fact.
It's only really noticeable in concept art, which is not what you will be looking at when playing the actual game anyway.
In fact the black background for battles in the NES game for II III and IV are detrimental for immersion (unless you are in a cave). DQI's small battle window is also an issue imo but it's less of a chore since there's ultimately a proper background (Especially with the lack of animation).
And I won't talk about the added content that got sadly removed in the 2DHD remake.
Exactly what I am trying to say. Sure, the game is still fantastic either way, but the added visual flair really made it so much better.
The actual original, is not. It's an NES game and it isn't present on the NSO.
The SNES version was never released outside of Japan.
And the GBC version was not added yet to the NSO either.
You CAN have the 'fairly okay' mobile port on the Eshop however.
