Only 8% of players are Americans, 65% are Japanese
after all that censorship and woke pandering

Why is that surprising ? DQ has always been the national treasure of Japanese .

Also , as mentioned by the game director they were forced to censor it . Blame it on the " DEI consultant " hired by Square Enix .

Yet they chose to take a piss on their own treasure to pander to a non existent audience

Yeah that's expected, the only reason it achieved the number of players it has it's because DQ is enormous in Japan, there's people over there who would buy it no matter what.

It could literally cost $200 and have a turd for main character and only last 2 minutes and some people in Japan would buy it without question in droves just because it's called Dragon Quest.

If it wasn't for the Japanese and their embrace of PC gaming in the last few years this game would be pretty dead right now on PC, especially with the stupid controversy caused by stupid Square-Enix pandering to Western stupidity.

Congratulations you've just discovered that the Japanese are huge fan of the series and Westerners not so popular. Took you many years to realize it though.

Cool, I'm a minority.

I can tell you that over here ( the eastern region in general ) , we don't even know the existence of these DEI consultants until recently . We thought they were going to make things better until the exposure of the ugly truth from SBI .

Unfortunately a lot of the higher ups from these corp remained dedicated and extorted by SBI . Just like how SBI blackmailed Wukong's dev to pay them 7m.

Gamers definitely deserve better than that , but send that msg to the higher ups and CEOs of Square Enix . The father of DQ games , Yuji Horii is an icon and just as much of a legend as Akira Toriyama . He isn't the one who make decision to censor them.

They were forced to by ratings boards. Consultants had nothing to do with it.

Despite the fact that the changes people are complaining about existed in Japanese-only games in the series...

But why let facts get in the way of a good angry rant.

I own this game on 3 different platforms and played it back in 91 when I was a kid. I'm not one of those people that gets off on provocative cartoon or video game characters, but when I hear things get censored due to possibly offending a fraction of people, it bothers me.

Not enough to go and learn another language, but enough to wait for someone to patch the game before i buy it. This is coming from the angle of growing up and wondering WTF some of the localization and translation meant in some of these games and why. From mortal kombat sweat to " you spoony bard!" or nintendo censoring everything religious so "holy" is "pearl" we live in a world and have the technology to faithfully reproduce these works of art and translate them properly to the original authors intent, but we still pander.

Make 2 modes when you start the game, call it "sensitive mode" and "Original Intent" mode and then you can wash your hands clean of anyone throwing a fit.

Ill eventually buy it, but I don't think its worth $60 at launch. Im glad they put it on steam at least instead of letting it sit on the Epic Games store or making it a PS5 Exclusive for 3 years. I've got a back catalog of 50+ games that still need played or tried out first, hopefully they work out their drama by then.
To each their own I guess :)

FYI:

This game has been released recently, estimates may not be accurate!

Also, people do also buy it for the switch and other consoles. Depending on what time this was done it could very well have been before it even released in the U.S.

Yuji Horii spoke up and he got shut down by the suits. he is THE top dog of Japanese vdeo gaming industry. if he couldn't do anything about it, then no one could.

Got any receipts?

Watch them post up 3 YouTuber videos talking about how bad SBI is and insist they worked on FFvII over and over again.
