Then why do their triple A games cost less?
Pretty much - AoM retold is roughly the same, and half the price - If you go for the DLC is a bit more.
It should be at that price point - but it's priced this way because SE.
$60 is expensive, no doubt about it, but to me personally I’ve been a huge fan of this series since the 80s and DQ3 in particular is my favorite of them all. So it was a no brainer and I grabbed the Switch version.
The good thing is it’ll go on sale here eventually so you can grab it cheaper down the road if you’d like.
Ah hey, thanks for the additional info. That does help the sting a little bit. Still (and I'm not directing this at you, Del, I appreciate your response and great to see another fan - this is for SE to see), even with additional content / artwork / story line / etc, we're still talking about a 30+ year old game remake.
I would have been far, FAR more understanding if this was an entirely new title (perhaps it is and they marketed this VERY wrong?). My guess is, since this is widely received as one of the best DQ's made, they bet on the name carrying the price tag.
Resident Evil 2 - $40
Secret of Mana - $40
Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Version - $30
Darksouls Remastered - $40
I could go on and on but I think I made my point.
What AAA cost less on release?
I don't like the price either, but no need to lie to try to make your argument better.
While I agree that this game should be $40 instead of $60, most of those remasters/remakes released very long ago, 5+ years.
The gaming market has changed a lot since then.
Consider that the NES release of the game only took up 4 MB of space. Four Megabytes.
The you go and ask if there has been any added content?! You are lacking context.
Those four megabytes originally cost $50 for the NES version in 1991. Adjusted for inflation that would be $115 today. This remake sounds like a deal to me.

SE Is KNOWN for this.
SE is known for this.
I'll admit you got me on the FF XVI it is cheaper.
But Octopath is more expensive, only by a little (at least in Canada) by 4$ and that game released a nice while ago.
BTW I'm not defending SE here, I don't like the price either.
"The gaming market has changed a lot since then." - I agree 100% and that's the problem that I have. Just because it's the norm doesn't mean it's right and REALLY doesn't mean we should normalize it.
"Those four megabytes originally cost $50 for the NES version in 1991. Adjusted for inflation that would be $115 today. This remake sounds like a deal to me." - That's the best argument yet and you are correct. I'll still await a sale (I refuse to encourage this greed) but you make an excellent point here.
It's more expensive then the second one, There is no need for any of these price points other than SE overcharging cause they think they can.
