Hell yeah I'm excited.

I saw a comparison shot between the initial game trailer and the final release's overworld, and at first I liked the trailer version better but after zooming in and looking around I think I came around on the final release. There was a lot more density because it was emulating the old school world map, but now it's got a real sense of scale.

Nice thing about the map is they actually expanded it to make it feel less compressed than the NES version.

I remember that original trailer, yea I like what they've done with it too.

The only DQ game ive played is XI but it became one of my favourite RPG's of all time, have been wanting to go back and play the rest of them so looking forward to experiencing one of the classics!

I'm curious what difficulty mode I should play. I either want to do normal or hard, but I can't choose which. Modern DQ games are usually extremely easy even on normal difficulty, but if Hard mode makes fights longer by inflating enemy HP, I don't think it would be worth it.

You should play Draconian or whatever they called it.

But at the same time they increased the movement speed enough that places take about the same time to traverse, which is amazing. DQ7 on 3DS was so needlessly expansive.

7 on 3DS was so disappointing. I still come back to the PS1 original, such a timeless classic.

And wow, the fact they thought to increase the movement speed is actually a really great touch. Color me impressed.

But does that increase enemy HP or make the player deal less damage?
I need to know before I choose.

It says it makes enemies "stronger", reduces XP, and reduces gold. I just need to know what that means exactly. If enemies are just dealing more damage, that's fine.

It probably means the equivalent of "running around with one's head set on fire" I imagine.

Well, I guess I'll have to experiment and find out for myself. At least you can change the difficulty at any time.

When Denuvo is finally removed, I want to do easy-mode speedruns, sounds like a chill time.
Uh... No thanks Nov 13, 2024 @ 8:11pm
My first true dragon quest game i think, I'm looking forward to playing it on deck

IIRC, in DQXI the stronger enemies had stats that were about 20%, and weaker enemies would eventually stop giving XP meaning there's a cap to how much you can level grind. It seems like internally a lot of their design philosophies are the same as they were for that release, so it's entirely possible that gold scales down to 0 at the same rate as XP and otherwise the exact same mechanics from XI are preserved.

Just guessing ofc because as far as I can tell the generic statement you shared is the only one we've gotten.

Hmm... so 20% more HP too?
It's really just the HP that determines if I'll play on hard or normal. I don't want to to fight spongey enemies; that feels cheap.
