Temple of Trials Reccomended Level / Stats
Temple of Trials is crazy. Even though I can whoop Xenlon's butt in about 20 turns I get my a** handed to me by random trash mobs in temple of trials (even with correct equipment equipped.) They will wipeout my whole team in 2 turns.

How much grinding do I really need to do before I can realistically take this on? Do I need to grind my hero all the way to Lvl 99? And do my party members need to have stats like in the 500 range (involving levelling them up to 99 on multiple different classes to get there?)

I hope not because honestly that's just too much grinding for me. I would hate to have to miss out on that content but I'm not about to spend the 100 hours it would take to grind that much. maybe I'll just use cheat engine.........

I beat Xenlon in 9 turns and the Temple of Trials was still pretty difficult at max level with near max stats. Some random mobs would nearly wipe a party member per turn if they ganged up on them.

Apparently the best time to reclass every for stats is around Lv. 70, but at that point you might as well seed farm with Lv. 99 Thieves since you'll be looping Martial Artist's high overall stats slow EXP gain and the final job you want probably.

Temple of Trials enemies range from Lv. 53 ~ 66, so I guess you'd need a party average of Lv. 71+ including Hero for Holy Protection to nullify every encounter. So if your Hero doesn't meet that requisite, I'd bench them for the Aid an Adventurer mechanic and use Padfoot to avoid every encounter, even if they can match either weapon requisite. If you used seeds on them, my condolences.

Check the bottom of this post for a list of stats and ailment resistances, since you'll need to leverage them.

The most lethal thing is probably Steely Statues hitting for 200 physical AoE damage in the Claw/Boomerang trial, as you'd need 600+ Defense to reduce it down to 100 and every +50 Defense after is -20 damage.
It doesn't help that their defense values are so high that it makes physical damage pretty weak, as you'd need at least (Enemy Defense - 100) Attack to deal 100ish damage
...and every +50 Attack afterwards would be +20 damage, while you specifically need to Critical Claim Hardy Hands because Attack caps at 850. Just go spend ~1.5 million EXP on each character as a Lv. 47 Martial Artist so they have it. And like 37k EXP on Lv. 20 Monster Wrangler so everyone has Wild Side + Monster Pile-On.
If your are grinding stats, 136k on a Lv. 29 Thief for Persecutter, optionally 410k on a Lv. 37 Warrior for Sword Dance & 172k on a Lv. 31 Gadabout for Egg On let you low turn either post-game boss since they are vulnerable to Confuse/Sleep.

The enemies are that overtuned with their bulk (Ka/Sap in this game is not a defense decrease, but rather 1.25x ~ 1.35x ~ 1.45x ~ 1.6x ~ 1.7x ~ 1.8x damage dealt) or high damage output (Steely Statue), while you can Blasto/Instant Death the boss Pandora's Boxes (but /not/ the fake chest versions), so it's just a gimmick dungeon if you don't grind.
The EXP amounts are not rewarding either. So besides Steely Statue's 0.5% Exotoga drop, if you wanted to King Hydra farm since it's 40% sleep resistance if you don't have Ortega's Helmet anymore (50% sleep resistance lost when upgraded to Auroral Helmet), I wouldn't engage with them.

I cleared the last boss of the trials at 76 hours played. I'd estimate I cleared Zoma around the 45 hour mark and Xenlon's final wish around 55. Most of my grinding for the trials was just me playing the lyre fighting King Hydras a few hours every night for a week. I listened to a lot of podcasts in the meantime. Wild Side + Hypnowhip makes the triple King Hydra fight pretty funny and a lot less scary.

The trials were not fun. I used Padfoot and Peep to skip through as much of the last dungeon as possible. I got lucky with a spare Exotoga drop, but didn't bother going back to get any more because the monsters felt dicey and unfair even after my hero hit 99. The Staff of Strife does wonders against Pandora's Boxes.

For the Grand Dragon, I think grinding up a party with 3x Monster Pile-on spam is faster than getting Thieves with 600+ strength for the Persecutter strategy. That's a LOT of seeds to farm. I fought the dragon a bunch of times and eventually just got lucky.

The endgame i really terrible in this game. THere's no real strategy you just grind and spam monster pile on or other skills. This is an older game obviously but the tacked on endgame stuff is just dumb.

So basically the post game isn't fun?
That is a shame. I would have liked to get the non-cannon ending from a wish.
Still, I won the actual game.
I see no reason to continue after Zoma if the post game isn't satisfying to play, that sounds like a waste of my time.
At least I enjoy the actual cannon portion of the game.

The GBC post-dungeon required a lot of grinding to get all the monster medals to access. It kind of feels like the new post-game dungeon is trying to carry on that grind in spirit.
