Secret super-easy cheat mode?!
I’d only played a couple hours or so of this game so far and on a whim restarted it.

Answered the questions in the beginning true to my actual personality and got the “Lone Wolf” personality (true enough!).

Discovered that if you try to leave instead of going to see the King at the beginning you actually can!

Couldn’t create a party because I wasn’t “authorized for adventuring”. But ran off to the first town anyway, then Promontory Passage and Dreamer’s Tower.

So I haven’t gotten very far yet but noticed something really strange—enemies are only doing between 0 and 1 hp of damage! And I’m leveling so fast that even when the damage accumulates a little the level up hp restoration covers it.

I am playing on the standard “Dragon Quest” difficulty level. But this is so crazy I almost feel like the game is bugged. Or actually an intentional feature?

You get 4x the EXP because EXP is split between your party and you only have 1 instead of 4. That's normal. There's no cheat or anything the beginning of the game really is just that easy

Interesting! I couldn’t believe the game would be that broken so glad to get a confirmation, thanks

Nah, the "super-easy cheat mode" is called Journalism Mode Dracky Quest.

the starting island is grossly easy and it scales in time. im sure you can get decently far with hero only without issue, but you will quickly reach a point where you are gonna get shredded.

I wish you luck. even on normal mode.

To be fair, a Solo Hero run was a challenge people used to do back in the day. I'm not sure how well it would work on this version with some of the changes though.

oh for sure, I plan to do it after my playthrough is done!

I once did a her only in DQ9 and that was a blast, and I later modded DQ11 to be Hero only and that was also a blast.

but as a casual player they are super hard challenges lol, especially in games designed for party comps like this where bosses can later use numerous moves in a row

Don't worry, it will get really tough later when you start encountering enemies and bosses who love to mess you up with status effects.

hmmm. I heard that you are awarded a sword for defeating archfiend Baramose without ever talking to the king. (it isn't an amazing sword but it is an upgrade)
Though I am not sure how you can do that when you need to recruit a merchant in order to get one of the orbs. I vaguely remember someone mentioning using the modrod to transform yourself and tricking Patty at the tavern. That may just be a rumor though.

You get a Bas. Sword if you defeat Baramos as just the Hero(ine), you can run with a party up to that point, but you need to solo him to get the sword for free early.

It's actually impossible to beat the game (without mods or cheating) without talking to King Aliahan, since you do in fact need to make a Merchant to get the Yellow Orb needed to reach Baramos.
