Level-0 troll is not a "fan" of anything.
Just a troll.
1 “tarnish Toriyama’s legacy”- Toriyama worked on this game, dark prince and other games in the past that included the changes to female warrior and the twins from 4. They were made with his approval and he never voiced any objection so people trying to do so now on his behalf are using his death.
2. “Censorship is bad!” While I agree on principle, trying to blame this on any buzzword nonsense is ridiculous when you can just easily look at CERO and their strict rankings. They want to have the game be A for all but they can’t with all the partial nudity. This is not new and can be seen as early as 2015 with Dragon quest stars, a Japan only game
3. “SBI!” Square has worked with them on one project (gummi or something) and there is no sign they have been involved as an actual partner in anything else. Additionally people are giving them far too much power or imagining it.
4” Type A/B!” This is for ease of translation due to Japanese honorifics not having specific ways to refer to people without either their titles “mr. Teacher, Mrs driver, princes Fumiko etc”, their names “mr. Smith, miss hart, mr. Lex” or via family titles. This way localization teams have an easier time to translate to various languages. This is also not uncommon in modem games, such as Elden ring, horizon zero west, cyberpunk 2077.
5. Troll lips/church cross- honestly, get over it. It’s got a negative reputation in the west due to the US’s past. If you can’t accept that then that’s on you. Church cross has been changed for a while cuz we give that crowd way too much power in the us.
^What a load of BS, lmao. Why would modern translators all of a sudden have a hard time typing mister, miss, sir, maam, or senior and senorita, as needed when it's been done just fine for years.
"Why do you think manga translators sometimes have trouble with androgynous characters?"
They don't. If the character has a confirmed sex/gender, then common sense dictates that's what you roll with. If not, then their name, implied gender or "it" will suffice.
*The Japanese language contains familia/gender/age/seniority specific words, grammar and honorifics.
*Translators have used the appropriate equivalents from other languages for years now.
