dq1-3 has a simple story like ff1-3, dont expect anything more

The 3rd is a prequel to the first two. So no need to play the original 1 & 2 before this remake.

You can play the 1 & 2 Remakes in 2025.

AFAIK no need to catch up. there is a reason why III HD-2D releases before I • II HD-2D.

Dragon Quest 1 was originally released in 1986 on a cartridge that couldn't hold more than 64 kilobytes of data. What could you possibly expect

something ambitious like FF1. it was released a year later but they tried to be deep with the story with time travel and stuff.

thanks man. i've been seeing a lot of advice not to play 3 before 1 and 2. they're saying something like it'll break the surprise or something,

FF1 was released on a cartridge that held FOUR times as much data and released within 2 months of Dragon Quest 3, that's kind of a silly comparison

Nah, I'm not trying to sound rude, but you're just wrong. The playtime of DQ 1 for me was about 5 hours.

Final Fantasy should be compared to DQ 3, as those games actually came out right by each other.

nah its ok. i jsut dont get the other guy lol. anyway, i saw a post that says DQ1 is around 10 hours, and FF1 is around 7-8hrs. i cant confirm the DQ1 since i havent played it yet, but can confirm the FF1. only reason it took me around 9 hrs to finish it is because i used to grind for extra level while watching netflix

DQ 1 is a teeny tiny game that takes place on a single continent. Don't expect it to be anything like FF.

The story is just "kill bad guy, rescue princess" and there truly is nothing more to it than that.

Now, that does not mean the game has no good qualities. DQ 1 does two things way better than FF in my opinion: world map and towns. NPCs actually have personality in this game, and the flow of the map is brilliant.

The NPCs and towns are what gives this game a feeling of depth to the story.

Just like the first 3 Final Fantasy, the first 3 Dragon Queen are not really that much about story, its about creating a univers and explore it, you will have a little speech in the start about some evil menace to push you out then some little problem/conflict around the world to push you ahead each time but thats all, its a travel not a story actually...
You will need to wait later for the next episodes for having true exchange between character who make you feel like they are "real" and maybe even have a personality!
And even later for the next episode to have a "true" story in a more "complex" world with a "stronger" cast this time...depending the episode of course...

Don’t go into this one for the story. It is barebones and simple. Just “there,” you know? They may have redone the localization when compared to the original versions, but the reviews are not praising story depth.

Again, check out Mr. Gentleman's analysis!

Everything he points out is there in the game, but a lot of people dismiss DQ on a surface level because they assume a story needs plot twists and multi-verse theories to be "good".

Of course, no one can account for opinion, but DQ 3 has a much deeper story than many people give it credit for.

I grew up on the series, and am able to come to my own conclusions, thanks. I do not listen to youtubers.
