This game turns into a real slog from Rubiss on
Just getting my two cents in. Enjoyed it until then. After that I just cheated to hit level 99 and steamroll the game. Didn't want to keep having my time wasted with 80s RPG baloney. I don't even remember the end of SMT Nocturne being this RNG reliant, and I got the True Demon ending (on PS2).

This version of DQ3 comes with maps for every area viewable at any time, free teleportation magic, and skills to pinpoint and highlight every chest and secret in the game. There's no missable content either, at least that I'm aware of. I don't see a reason why anyone would need a guide.

Honestly that’s the only thing I can think of for why he’s struggling so much unless if he’s lying and not telling us something.
No I think he nailed it, level 40 maybe low for the final boss, he did not fully optimize his party, skipped the arena so had gold issues. Did not use a guide so may have missed a LOT of the secret areas. Yes he made the game harder than it needed to be, but it is also kind of unfair to NEED a guide to play a game anyway, do it with a guide remove most challenge, skip the guide and maybe make the game too hard to be fun.
Maybe but people managed to beat the originals without the monster arena, secret spots or shining objects and with two less classes. He’s most likely under optimized

Pretty sure not using a guide made me even more overpowered because instead of just beelining towards where I know secret spots are I had to actually search them out which resulted in a lot more encounters

That's how I played - searching the map, not just going to stairs or objective marker.

To find all the secret areas, mini medals and party planning. Nothing that cannot be corrected later mind you, but there is a benefit to pre planning and not wandering all over, checking every corner to find everything.
