Is Monster Arena Bugged?

For whatever reason, my monsters are capable of using Spells, but they seem to refuse to use Abilities more often than not. Knight monster uses Fire Slash, but monsters like the Poison Puddle refuse to ever use his skills. (and yes, I have set the AI to No Mercy & Fight Wisely just to check).

I think it has a few bugs, for me my monsters won't die, which is great for easy wins, but annoying in terms of difficulty.

I'm not though, playing on default difficulty, even double checked. Haven't changed it since starting
