I recommend leveling thief to 25 to unlock Hypnowhip
Then gadabout to 20 for easy sage, or use the words of wisdom.
Then Sage, Sage can equip Somatic Staff, which gives them a huge physical boost, and hypnowhip does great damage to monster groups.
Pretty much puts the game on easy mode for grinding, also with theif you get assassin's stab, does 1 damage to a target but high chance to instantly kill. Great for metal slime farming.
At 40, you can switch the sage back to Thief or Martial Artist for end game. I prefer Thief so I can farm seeds.
I have a thief at level 18. I'll consider levelling her.

Just call me a heathen, I just swapped level 26 Martial Artist to my Sage, my Mage is going to explore Monster Master, and my Priest will be exploring some of the other classes for unlocking abilities. This will give all 4 of my characters at least some healing ability
