Report a translation problem
I'll mention real quick that a lot of places have broke street date, so I've seen a number of folks who have gotten a copy as early as a few days ago.
That said, there's still a review embargo AFAIK so no major outlets are putting out anything. (And the people who got it early are generally diehard fans and really offer no critical insight to the extent I have seen)
I am really curious about the actual depth and quality of the game, myself. The most I have gotten so far has been "the graphics look sooo prettyyy!!!!" so... make of that what you will.
Only censored in USA and eu as political parties passed laws. Dont like the laws, write to your statesman. Me I will get the uncensored Japan version.
6/10
Problems:
Dialogue: 5/10
in combat and in towns is in some cases extremely poor. A lot of it may be subject to difficulties in translating Japanese to English, but they have had how many years to address this? There are NPCs that say totally weird sentences or phrasings that are just bad translations.
Combat: 7/10 The original "Monsters appear" was correct. The remake? "Monsters await" incorrect. Then when you do a global spell to damage multiple enemies,, all the enemies get simultaneous damage if they are struck and you get text: "You did about X damage to the monsters". whaaaaat? I'd like to know how much damage EACH monster took. come on.
Why put the encounters in 3rd person and then ZOOM IN to remove that for first person? Could have given us a toggle switch to maintain that 3rd person look. oh well.. 1st person makes it difficult to know where spells are happening.
Graphics: 10/10 Lighting effects, the look of the water and trees animating... Towns look awesome.. Graphics is extremely well improved with nice details on faces and monster animations are very nice.
Music/Sound: 9/10 Nothing beats Dragon Quest symphonic music and the sound effects of battle. But, lack of sound effects or issues I saw with walking around the overworld (maybe I am wrong?). I will see if sound effects are ok after game releases but it seems awfully quiet when moving around.
Gameplay: 9/10: Can't give this one a 10 because Dragon Warrior 4 gameplay is superior.
Oh it's easily superior to the Nes/Famicom version. It's gonna be the overall best remake of Dragon Quest III yet
You'd think if they knew they had a winner the review embargo would lift way earlier so people could read how great it is, being so close to release day just seems kinda shady. Maybe that's how it always is, who knows.
Not even one full percent more censored than any other version of the game and it is not slop.
