MINDWAVE
Love the queer-aesthetic!
All the colors, the vibes, and the overall music is screaming queercore to me and I love it. I really hope the rest of the game keeps with the awesome and mesmerizing themes/music.

Ignore the person above, this game's amazing! Unsure why people even have a problem with queer indie games lmao -_- . I don't think people are asserting the headcanon that Abbie is transfem (frankly I think having literally the same color palette as the trans flag is a good reason); I just don't like that the people that disagree with that are kinda rude lol...
They more of reject the idea outright rather than say..."nah, I personally feel like they're cis"

Although the game isn't *explicitly* queer, it does kinda have that vibe I suppose?
The game kinda gives me a glimpse of "the old internet's" style? It's super cool!
Feels like 2000s internet to me but hey, if it feels inclusive it's even better, after all that is how old internet could be with all its micro islands of forums, irc rooms etc. instead of gigacorps. Or how I remember it anyway...

Yeah this, 2000s era, but I wasn't born yet at that time, so I couldn't *fully* describe it, but I really liked the vibe and look of those
Not hating or anything but what the hell is queer-aesthetic? Using colors and a cartoony style doesn't mean that its LGBT or queer or whatever.
What is a queer-aesthetic?

Frankly I don't really know either, it's more of 2000's vibe and style, buuuut it could be that it's relatable due to the diverse colors? Like the commenter above, colors and cartoony styles *doesn't* necessarily make something queercore, but if queercore makes it more relatable, then I think that's perfectly fine lol!

Just an Internet trend like many other.

I agree, this is a bit too broad and vague to properly define.

I think by "queer aesthetic", cold-one probably isn't referring to the art style on its own, which is very much "Invader Zim" meets "The World Ends with You", but rather the vibe of the broader gestalt view of the entire package

The game features very strong anti-corporate messaging, an alt style protagonist, embraces highly feminine imagery as valuable and worth celebrating in a way which is uncommon in media produced for a cishet male gaze, said femininity is tied to a girl dressed in the trans flag colors, a diverse cast, and Alex is very strongly coded as non-binary to the point I don't think it's really speculation to call them such (automatically referred to by Pandora and Smalls as they/them despite wearing a skirt and those two using gendered pronouns for every other character, gender neutral name, visually androgynous design)

These cultural leanings come together to paint a broader picture which, even if the text itself isn't super duper queer, has a general vibe that is likely to highly resonate with queer people. It's less queer aesthetic as in "everything here is gay" and more "this is something that gay people will like"

Honestly, something-core is a weird way to name things.

Something that is more punk will also get called queer because it's subversive?

MC looks like if J. Vasquez drew Vivian James. I’m a little anxious they might change the character if I point that out;

Color schemes should not be enclosed upon in my opinion. They can mean anything the creator or the viewer wishes/intends.

I don't know who Vasquez nor Vivian are but what does it have to do with changing the character?

I agree, sometimes colour have a different meaning depending of culture. For example red in Japan is often attributed to leadership (thus why many main characters in shows and anime wore that colour, especially Tokusatsus where, in Super Sentai aka Power Ranger in the west, the first member of the squadron is always red coloured) whereas in the west we tend to associate that colour with villains (red like blood) or East-European/Central Asian countries because of their flag colour.

Same with how we associate death with Black whereas in Japan (and perhaps other Asian countries) it's White.

Certain aesthetics being associated in one direction or another at any given time can lead to certain changes being made due to people being uncharitable with the difference between personal interpretation and intent. (“If I interpret these colors as this that’s what you intended and I will judge you for it”)

In the game Destiny for instance,

Therefore “red-head wearing green-and-purple striped shirt” or even “green and purple stripes” could get certain collections of people upset just like certain groups get upset with rainbows or other stripe patterns.

And even if they didn’t intend this they might remove it because of those people insisting they were dog whistling.
