I was unsure if I should even post a review to this because it’s a quite personal topic to me, but I decided to write one anyway because 1) no one gives a ♥♥♥♥ regardless of what I write here, and 2) the bad ending made me so mad, I need to complain somewhere.
There will be spoilers, and also references to CSA ahead, which is the game's main topic, so please refrain from reading this review if that happens to be triggering.
Before starting, I need to clarify that I knew beforehand what I was getting myself into. I knew what the game would be about, I knew a bit about one of the endings (the bad one), and I knew that it would be a hard game for me to get through, but I wanted to play it despite that in hopes of giving myself some form of exposure therapy. In hindsight, that was a stupid idea; you shouldn’t prod at wounds that still bleed.
Still, the game feels disrespectful, and some parts feel like they were only added for disgusting shock value. The “good” ending is one of the problems – not necessarily because of what happens, but for how it was portrayed. The main topic of the game is clear from the start. Adding the noises of the abuse almost happening was unnecessary, considering that the target audience is likely to include survivors of SA. At the very least, there should’ve been an option to turn the noises off.
The “good” ending itself feels shallow because there is no lesson. The father disappears out of the house, leaving every single door unlocked, so the daughter walks out of the house. Not only is the father's behaviour unrealistic, but there’s nothing beyond that. The girl’s eyes hurt because she’s looking at the sun for the first time in her life, and that’s it. There is no catharsis, no resolution, no deeper message.
What bothered me the most, though, was the name of the achievement tied to the bad ending: “Is it your fault? – Should we blame ourselves in retrospect?” Excuse me? What the ♥♥♥♥? Given that the girl is played BY THE PLAYER and the game’s target audience are (hopefully???) survivors of SA – why would anyone ever think that blaming the victim, and therefore also the player, by responding with a very normal, common and valid trauma reaction, which, in this case, happens to be freezing/fawning, is okay? What was the goal here? What exactly was the dev trying to say with that achievement? Who is this game even catering to???
The protagonist is a young child, and even besides that fact, blaming someone for doing whatever they had to do in order to survive is cruel and unnecessary and only worsens the shame victims feel. Real-life situations aren’t just “cooperate and you’ll lose, fight back and you’ll win”, ESPECIALLY for a traumatized child with Stockholm syndrome and a clear trauma bond to her abuser.
“Art should disturb the comforted and comfort the disturbed”, but this game didn’t comfort. Not even close.

The game just feels like a hollow attempt at trying to handle a serious topic, prioritising shock value over any depth or emotional weight. The surface-level storytelling makes it painfully predictable and the ending is absolutely in poor taste.
There is no moral lesson, no growth, and story other than that of a man abusing a girl.
It also seems to try and justify its poor writing by basically saying “woww you’re so strong if you went through this”.
It’s sad, but only because it is human to want to feel empathetic.

This is a lovingly crafted game that has good intentions of bringing awareness to certain horrific and unfortunately realistic scenarios some poor children have to live through. however, although I tend to enjoy "slow burn" type of horror games, this one reaaaallly tests your patience. This is a fantastic concept for a game with some good scares, and I can't complain with the free price tag, but I would've rather gone to a gaming YT channel I enjoy to get the highlights.
