Won't Display. Goes Blank, Only Audio-

EDIT: Someone bumped this after 3 years. I don't even remember the issue at this point. This was about 3 upgrades ago.


Running into an issue now where when I launch the game my srceen goes blank and all I hear is sound from the game. I have to ALT-TAB to get back to desktop and right click and close.

I have tried alt enter, setting launch options to fullscreen run compat mode on both the RCTPLUS .exe and Steam.exe in every way possible nothing seems to work.

I am running Windows 8 amd fx6200 6 core with a amd 7790 2gddr5 card 10gb ram

Any ideas? I mean I can hear the game running and when i alt +tab to close it I can see it flash up for a second. This was working. I went from it crashing to working to not showing up at all.

what resolution is your desktop/game running at? try dropping the resolution down to say 1024 x 768 32 bit

I tried readjusting the desktop res from 1024x768 to 1024 720 1920 1080 none seem to fix it. thankx though

could try downloading and re-installing dirextX....maybe. i take it you have already tried running the execution file in compatability mode windows 7 or windows xp service pack 3....? correct?

sadley yes to all. No worries for the first time its the ONLY game NOT working on windows 8 currently. I got it on mac so until this issue goes away I'll play it on there when I can.

I got it to display again running launch command -windowed and changing the default res. but performance is so bad now for some reason. NO idea about to give up on this ha wtf

uninstall, go to appdata, delete atari - go to the steam folder called Roller Coaster Tycoon 3: Gold and delete that also. Then install it again, should work.

Sadley it is still running very painfully slow. I am wondering if it is NOT compat with my video card. Gigabyte Radeon 7790 2gdd5 I have a feeling it is not

Dang. Not sure what to say. Must be a compat issue. :{ ... Maybe try tweaking your graphics settings around?

I just changed cards all together and am now running a Gigabyte 7850 2gddr5. FYI gigabyte sucks ha I'll post soon once I reinstall RCT3plat again

I wish I could help but this was on a COMPLETELY different system 3.5 years ago . I am pretty sure this was a driver issue. The game has wonky native resolutions.

If you are running multiple displays, duplicate or disable all but one of them
update drivers
Verify game cache integrity
uninstall reinstall game

I wish I would've seen this thread before I bought the game. I am having the same issue (blank screen, in my case monitor read "no signal" and "invalid format," and I can hear sound). Think I might've just wasted 20 dollars. Bought this because I missed RCT2 which also won't run on my computer since I upgraded to Win10.
