You don't need compatibility options. Do a verify files and make sure the whole thing *really* got downloaded. Does it keep telling you a certain file is not installed every time you verify?

Yeah i have the entire game. No errors other then the one stated
Hello the game does not start on Mac OSX 10.6.8, it would have a solution or a patch to come to solve this problem.
Thank you in advance

Have you also tried running Steam and the RCT3 game with Admin level permissions?
Myself, using an Admin level account anyways, I've had no problems running this game (it worked right away and I didn't have to do anything) on my computer with Windows 7, 64bit.
An Admin level account on steam? Where?

@exp: You misunderstand me, I was suggesting to the original-poster, who is using Windows 7, to run Steam and the RCT3 game with Windows Admin level permissions (or to use a Windows account with Admin permissions).
Ah OK sorry :) I no longer use PC since I have a mac, it is the basis to work on :)

I solved it by enabling compatability mode for Windows 98.

how would you do that though?

Go to "My Computer" and then navigate to C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Gold, find the icon named RCT3plus(.exe), right click it, properties, "Compatibility" tab, tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and select Windows 98/Windows Me from the dropdown menu. Hope it helps.

A good tip that's worked for me running Windows 7 64bit (especially if you're getting the 'Failed to Start: App already running' meassage) is to run both the rct3.exe AND the Steam.exe in Windows XP sp3 compatibilty mode. For those that aren't sure, go into your steam folder, SteamApps -> Common -> Roller Coaster Tycoon and right-click on the .exe, select 'compatibilty' and then Windows XP sp3. Then, shut down Steam through task manager and with the Steam desktop icon do the same as above. You'll get an error message with steam saying it's not advised, but roll with it anyway.

Other things I've done before this are (in the Rollercoaster Tycoon folder) to delete the 'testApp.exe', changed 'firsttime 1' in the options text file to 'firsttime 0' and done the standard validate appcache/restart steam business. Hope this helps guys, the game is great.

I just found a way to fix this and i solved it, all you have to do is head to your control panel and click uninstall programs and uninstall rct3 and re-install rct3 and then till it finishes, run the game and it works now!
