New to RCT3 on steam-- how do I import custom scenery w/2018 version?
Hi all,

I'm looking forward to playing this game in a detailed manner, as I have discovered its availability on mac, and the ability to import custom scenery. However, there seems to be no "Style -> Themed" folder chain in any of the aforementioned places: the Documents -> Aspyr -> "RCT3 Platinum" goes to a seemingly incomplete list of folders compared to what I've seen in tutorials.

So, I wanted to ask if anyone has found the right folder to put custom scenery, the stuff created circa 2013 before Coaster Planet?

Thanks!
rukt

Verify your game files via steam verity. I am not familiar with mac so i can't say to that extent but i can tell you decorative items CustomScenery(CS) usually goes into steam folder then Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Gold-Style-Themed sub folder.

Custom Track Rides(CTR) follow a slightly more complex path but very do-able. Those usually contain instruction on where to put the files. The usually two folders to put htem in would be Cars-TrackedRideCars and Tracks-TrackedRides folder.

For Custom Flat Rides(CFR) it is usually style-custom(which you might have to make a new folder for) folder. Look for instructions contained within the file download.

Thanks Full Throttle... hmmm....I haven't seen any place to verify a file, how does one do that? I think the current things I downloaded are all CS decorative--and, It doesn't look like there's a Style Folder in any of the program folders. Maybe this is due to purchasing "Platinum" instead of "Gold" version? For some reason, I don't even have the "GameData" folder....

To verify your game, right click your roller coaster tycoon 3 tag on library then to properties, next to local files and then verify. Funny I do have platinum as that was what was on the steam store but in my game folder it states i have gold. They both have all the expansion packs and updates i believe.

Can you get to your main steam folder?

Hmm, here are 2 things I can do:

1. I can get to a Steam folder in "Library" from the "Go" drop menu
2. I have 2 versions of the app, one on my desktop and another in my Applications folder [the one that comes directly from the "home" folder]

I am wondering how to go from that to verifying the game; one idea might be to try to drag the desktop app into the Steam folder?

Oh, just as I wrote that, I was able to drag those folders into the "Themed" folder! Went through Go-- Library -- Application Support -- Steam -- steamapps -- common -- RCT3 Gold -- RCT3 Platinum "reveal contents" -- GameData -- Style -- Themed !

Yes, I did see the "RCT Gold" folder as well, weird :P

I'm not sure about verifying the program, however. I have never been asked to do that, for any of the folder drops, or anything else. So, I am a bit concerned I could cause a cresh by not doing that.

Here goes, I'll open the app.

Thanks!

Ok, cool a lot of it worked. One problem that was pretty odd considering some of the advice I've gotten on tutorials, is that the program crashed when I tried to get into one of the wall sets... it said "no SVD". I'm wondering about that.... because I was told that .ovl was the only type of file that mac could take.... so does that error describe a lack of an .ovl file being present in the folder, or does it need another .svd kind of file?

In any case, I might just try to delete that set, and re-download it with correct instructions. there may have been a folder or two that I separated incorrectly from the originally downloaded folder, maybe mis-hearing the tutorial in saying I needed to make sure the only files going into the Themed folder were .ovl's

Anyways, I'll see if I can keep it from crashing :-/

Ok, yup looks like multiple sets are starting to uncover that same error. The error is "No :svd for :sid"

ok, just fixed the errors! had to take each library out of its outermost folder, whether or not there was still a readme in it. eek!

Nice. Yea make sure you download somewhere else other than to extract it directly to destination. Make sure the scenery file folder you are putting it contains shared folder, a few ovls and a folder usually named whatever you are installing

here's an old but I think still useful topic about those errors:

In a Mac you can open Steam, in your Steam Library right click on RCT3, go to Properties> Find Local Files, and it will open Finder with RCT3 folder. Right click in the app, Show Package Content.
Inside you'll find the folders to put de Custom Scenery folders.
