I hope they do as well. I have the whole of the UK in Orbx TrueEarth scenery and many Orbx VFR small grass airfields.
But the weather / nature / grahics improvements are not bad at all. I like them.
I think, it is to expensive for LR to provide the needed server infrastructure and buy the rights of the satellite images. It would be a huge amount of money.
Personally, I use Orthos for Europe (Level 16-18, 4 TB), USA (Level 12, 1 TB) and Africa (Level 12, 1 TB). Orthos look even better than the blue tinted muddy MSFS scenery above 5000 ft.
But I understand if people are tired of creating several TB of Orthos in hundreds of hours.
In the long run, I think LR will offer streaming scenery, but right now it is still too expensive. One day it will be normal.
Or a third party vendor will offer it for X-Plane and LR just offers the necessary adapter for displaying the scenery in the sim.
totally agree.. want to be able to play offline and have a sim that focuses on important stuff...
There's some information about the subject in X-Plane.org forums:

Notably:
"Google does not "own" that imagery. They license it from the companies you can read in the copyright statement at the bottom of google maps. And the license google buys it under does not include the right to resell that imagery."
Having said that, MSFS is improving with yet many more years of support so the flight dynamics could well improve.
So many real-world Heavy jet pilots now have YouTube channels flying the PMDG 737 in MSFS and saying how very realistic the flight dynamics are so Xplane really have to come up with something good to win people back.
My dad is a Captain for American flying the 737, he says they're fine though not perfect (no sim is). They have also flown many other aircraft in their career including the MD-80, Saab 340, Jetstream 31 and Metroliner. They have also taught a lot of people as a CFI and CFII.
That has to be the biggest load of baloney I've ever heard. 😂
Yes I have flown the Zibo and my Flight Factor 767 in Xplane. You were talking about flying in a 737 as a passenger and accusing real-world pilots of being bought my MS. Lol.
I'd rather believe the thoughts and opinions of real-world pilots who fly the PMDG 737 in MSFS than I would a mere armchair pilot such as yourself.
