Thanks! Yes I have MSFS too and it is better in terms of graphics and scenery.
I use XP11 for airliner flying because I feel that this for me is its strength. The Zibo is a true gift to us and everything just feels smoother and more professional.
So the two sim compliment each other well.
Not a fan or "ortho" in XP either and I'm glad Austin is opposed to it.
I don't mind the XP11 graphics too much, the only thing I really hate is tiling. And theres a lot of it I see during cruise. Feel like I'm flying over a bathroom floor. I hope XP12 addresses this. Perhaps tweak the underlying code so the sim generates much more varied textures and landclass.
I think your opening sentence is harsh. I use MSFS with Foreflight on my iPad. I keep navigation data in MSFS up to date with Navigraph. Foreflight is obviously kept up to date. I can fly any real world procedure in MSFS. MSFS, like any simulator, can be used as a game if the user so wishes. I used Xplane with Orbx True Earth while doing my PPL in the UK - it was fantastic. I use both XPlane and MSFS when flying online with PilotEdge. Both simulators give a satisfying and realistic flying experience.
I am super excited about the updates coming in XPlane 12. Personally I don't need to see satellite imagery in a simulator (great if the sim has it, but not crucial). As long as geographic features are in the right place, I can fly accurately and realistically.

In reply to raykeattch.. I guess I am upset with MS2020 as it let me down big time. It worked without a flaw for 07 months, with no CTD's. Then came Update 5 on 27th July and after that I could not fly at all as it would CTD before reaching the main menu!
It's just not fair, when you buy a product and many addons from the official legal FS2020 marketplace, and one fine day the sim stops working, with no changes made on the PC. After spending endless hours on forums and youtube, zendesk etc...uninstalling / reinstalling, removing folders etc, etc with "0" results you feel let down. The money you spent for a great product is gone (for the moment), unless they fix the CTD issues, and then you have to spend more to fly again on another simulator.....so yes I am harsh on FS2020 cause it let me down. I was a Microsoft Flight Simulator addict since the earlyb 2000's and thought FS2020 was the crowning glory....but it didn't turn out that way.
So! I am now enjoying X-Plane and even though i miss the graphics + clouds of MS2020, I can fly again and complete my flights without worrying about CTD's.
If you want to roll with that analogy I will throw in my opinion and say you have to put a ton of makeup on X-Plane, lol. I have loads of addons for XP, P3D and MSFS from tools, weather engines, scenery, aircraft, texture replacements, ect. I'm moments away from buying the Airfoillabs 172 NG that was just released today however I still enjoy MSFS and imo it's the future of this hobby.
I personally only recommend XP11 right now because it's on sale (which ends in around four hours from this post). Otherwise unless you've already heavily invested into XP11 it's simply not worth it imo at this point, wait for XP12.
As for it not being something for the serious simmer? I mean that depends. Does MSFS have it's issues? Yes, of course but so does XP and P3D. The key to getting the most out of MSFS is not being so reliant on stock content (as is pretty much the case with all sims). Nothing really stops me from using MSFS the same way I do XP and P3D. In the end it's very important to understand that no sim is perfect, even those multimillion dollar ones of which I've used (Gulfstream II).
In closing I can understand the frustration with MSFS but this whole idea that it's good for nothing but sight seeing (the makeup)? I don't get it. Just the other day I was flying under IFR in IMC for pretty much the entire 200nm flight in a Cessna 152 on VATSIM.
EDIT: Added to post.
I wish we could have the FS2020 Graphics + the XP reliability + PMDG aircraft = Ultimate Sim :) :)
