not really in my opinion. you need some quality payware aircraft, the flight models and systems in the included planes aren't really worth it. Plus at least some scenery for where you want to fly, ortho is free and not that difficult to use once you learn how. Included scenery is not that great.
Not anymore. It needs too many payware addons to be playable.
Depends on your intentions, expectations and skills.

It doesn't NEED any payware addon, even less than ever in case you are a beginner in flight simulation. Just start, learn how it works, and get the appropriate addons that fit to your preferred style of play the sim later. You'll know what you need when the time is right.

In my opinion, yes, it is worth. I'm done with MSFS for many reasons long ago, even their newest iteration will not change that. I've learned my lesson.

When it came out, I dropped X-Plane in favour of FS2020. Like most other people I was attracted by the shiny new thing with the pretty eye-candy.
Having played for a few months, I'm really torn between the two. The graphics of FS2020 are outstanding, even compared to XP11 with Orbx's True Earth scenery, but as an actual simulator FS2020 doesn't feel real like XP11 does. As a developer, I appreciate the mature and comprehensive API XP has, whereas the unfinished and diabolical SimConnect API of FS2020 is a waste of time. That's why there are so few 3rd party aircraft for FS2020 even after all this time.

At the moment, X-Plane is an excellent simulator, and Flight Simulator is a beautiful game.
Honestly, both are worth their asking price.

Id get XP11 in sale and just enhance it with an amount of great free addons where a lot of them are payware quality.
Getting it at 42% off last week was worth it for me, most definitely. Never piloted for real nor sim before. Now I’m soaring and loving it.
ABSOLUTELY, with a decent computer.

It's way more realistic, than MFS2020.
Not really, actually Peter. In terms of graphics, MSFS is better and the difference is like night and day in comparison with X-Plane but then for aircraft realism, X-Plane shines way above thanks to all its quality add-ons like the Zibo mod. I have MSFS on the MS Store and half of the time, I cannot complete a standard IFR flight in the A20N. Just yesterday I crashed whilst flying on Vatsim near Dusseldorf because the plane went into a nose dive. Lastly, X-Plane has the best physics model out of all the sims. MSFS is not at all realistic in term of the physics engine.

So to recap:

MSFS is more of a fun, not realistic sim. It's great for flying GA and doing VFR flying even though the physics are broken.

X-Plane is realistic and has many study-level planes. If you want to do realistic flying in an airliner (on Vatsim or IVAO, for example), this sim is the way to go.
Having tried P3D FSX and FS2020, I think I'm gonna get this on Christmas sale for sure, just to try it out.The 737 Zibo mod is quite good I've heard, the PMDG 737 is starting to feel dated.
There's a demo on the x-plane.com that you can try anytime.
xplane 11 is so much better than fs2020 imo and worth a buy, the amount of quality freeware aircraft is insane and the payware is also great if you want to expand your hangar.
Having had many flight sims since the 90's I can say I enjoy x-plane over all. I got locked out of MFS when I loaded windows 10 and no one could make it go again. My grand son had bought XP and liked it so I bought it and really like it. I have logged over 1,500 hrs on it.
i would say if you are a hardcore flight simmer or even a siimmer in general then yes, lost of freeware aircraft out there and the physics are realistic.
