MD-80 Start-up, flying, and landing walk-thru
Spent the last 5-6 hours trying to find guides showing the basics like starting up, taxing to, flying, and landing. If anyone has any experience, could you provide a guide?

There's plenty on youtube. I've watched at least 3-4 videos. Don't know what do you mean by taxing to.
I only have one problem with md80. Don't know how to decide what should be your landing speed. The one it shows in FMC is way too low.

By taxing, I mean, I watched lots of Xplane 11 MD-80 videos showing the plane at the airport terminal ready to receive passengers. In my version of X-Plane 11, when you setup a flight, the game places you on the airport's runway. After I scheduled a flight plan with ATC, I saw yellow lines to move somewhere (I assume a terminal). The plane wouldn't move forward even though it was powered up. On the overhead warning panel, I saw two warnings: the "brake is on," and the "capt heat is off" (I'm paraphrasing since I don't remember explicitly). I dealt with both of those, and yet the plane still wouldn't move forward when I move the throttle or joystick forward. That's where I was stuck and where most of the 4-5 hours went. Did that make sense?

So place the plane at the gate instead of runway? You can choose the starting point before the flight, it has nothing to do with MD80.
It literally says that the park brake is on so you can't move. Just release the brake. I suggest you watching on youtube and learn. There's too much to explain if you don't even know how to release a parking brake.
This one is a nice video explaining everything you need to do https://youtu.be/jy-n6dFZGYw

I watched that video (I came across it in my 4-5 hours).

I explicitly stated that I dealt with both of the "brake is on," and the "capt heat is off" warning messages. In other words, the brake was off, but the plane would not move forward. (I honestly wonder if people read a few words of someone's post and reply.)

Do you need a push back do get away from the gate?

No. He starts at the runway where he starts the plane and then wants to move to the gate. I don't know why.

To answer the question - you need to increase throttle to start moving lol

The SIM is still seeing both of those things as true.

You either need to map a control to activate/deactivate the parking brakes which are applied by default, or you need to hit the corresponding key on the keyboard to disable the parking brakes.

Remember that the parking brakes are NOT the same as the toe or wheel brakes.

Likewise you need to enable pitot and windshield heat as part of the startup proceedure.

Also X-plane defaults to placing the plane on a runway unless you specify a gate on the airport page (right hand side). This is to make it easier for newbies who don't realize that there are many starting options for each flight.

Not sure what happened but last night, I released the brake and the plane started moving. Likely a bug of some sort that worked itself out.

When you start on the runway, the game completes most of the startup options. The only thing I needed to do was flip on the seat-belt and no-smoking signs. I also enabled the captain's heat and released the brake. After that, the plane started moving. That first night I tried the MD-82 felt like a bug. The plane won't move forward even after releasing the brake and moving the throttle forward. As I positioned the throttle forward, I could hear the engine power increase, but no forward motion.
