I have eight devices that all provide inputs.
Nonsense.
Most use Window's native HID drivers... but there are a few exceptions that require additional drivers.
If you can calibrate the joystick in Windows, and you can see each of the button presses in Window's calibration panel, then you do not need to install anything... but you DO have to configure X-plane.
You can also create your own configuration/definition and include your own image if you wish to go that far. It is not difficult to do but it does require some knowledge of .xml.
This is "user error".
X-plane sees and can accept input from multiple devices.
If one or more of those devices are recognized and officially "supported" then it will assign controls and axis to those devices often in conflict!
So if you have a gamepad controller and and throttle/joystick you may find that both have throttle assignments. Since the gamepad springs may keep the control centered X-plane sees 50% throttle from that at the same time it may be getting 100% throttle from something else, so it may not produce the results you expect.
In turn if the device is NOT support but still recognized as an HID USB device by Windows, X-plane will not show a graphic representation of the device. However it still will accept inputs from it especially if you see the device listed in the pull down.
When multiple devices are connected your best bet is to remove ALL assignments form all connected devices then start manually making the assignments one at a time to avoid conflicts.
The exception to the above are non-conforming devices which Windows does not automatically recognize and which require specific drivers to work. But that is really a problem for the OEM. Ironically some of the joysticks being sold on the X-plane.org store only work with proprietary drives... NOT GOOD... good luck with those in a few years.
