X-Plane 11

X-Plane 11

Worth another $60????
I already own X-Plane 10. Found it to be an excellent simulator but a lousy game. FSX on the other hand is a pretty good game and only a fair simulator. FSX with but two add-ons got years of play while XP10 has gotten in years of owning just 35 hours.

I personally prefer game over sim when a choice has to be made, In a perfect world the perfect non military flight game would be a blend of XP10 and FSX - great sim and great game.

I'm thinking that XP11 might be getting close to that but just am not sure.

Is it close? What features does it have that 10 doesn't? Is the game aspect there now (are there reasons to fly other than just to fly. Hauling passengers, freigtht. Maintenance? Running an airline? Flying in a sky with other planes?

If so laying down another $60 on the counter would be something I'd do.

In other words does XP11 have an additional $60 worth of value over XP10?

If you are looking for a game then I think XP11 is not for you. But I'm curious, I own and fly both FSX SE and XP11. I have never considered either a game. How do you consider a simulator a game? What are you looking for gamewise from a flight simulator? Also, why don't you download the demo for XP11 and check it out yourself to see if it provides what you are looking for.

FSX is a game and IMO a simulator light/medium. Add air hauler and FSPassenger add-ons to it and you've got a game. Add Just Flight 360 to it and now you've got a living world. A pretty fun game that gives one a reason to fly other than just fly in what XPlane feels like which is a dead world.

A game has (for lack of a better description) soul.
A simulator doesn't.

If XP11 is getting to a point where it feels more alive then I'm on it!

I tried looking for air hauler and fspassenger for x plane 11. I couldn't find anything for air hauler but I did find the following on x-plane.org.

If you want a game don't bother. This is not for you.

If you want a great sim don't mind spending on add-ons to get study level flight training accuracy, X-plane 11 is more than worth it.

Beyond that it is your choice.

Seen it - just adds sounds that make it sound like you've got passengers onboard. I think - but that's what the write up appears to me to be the case. It kind'a feels like you can make the FSX version of FSPassengers work in XPlane - not sure about that.

For me it's all about a purpose - a reason to fly. A plane is little more than a tool to move things from point A to point B or blow other planes out of the sky or drop nasty things on nasty people.

Same as a car, a tank or a cannon. A tool.

Without a purpose it is little more than a toy.

Give me a purpose to fly.

If you want a game don't bother. This is not for you.

ASIDE: there are those who truly do enjoy just flying with no other purpose than riding in the sky. Were that I were one of those lucky people. Alas I am not.

Well I hope you find your purpose. For me the purpose is to enjoy the scenery if I'm flying VFR (or IFR, I Follow Roads or Rivers). The other thing I like to do is to pick places off of the badbadweather.com site where the weather is bad and fly instrument approaches to landing. But that is just me.

I own both Xplane and FSX and I don't think Xplane would suit you
Like you I don't like to fly without purpose, and Xplane is just a training simulator and it feels like I'm flying in an emtpy world.
If you want to be a better pilot in the real world, Xplane can help you with that, but if you want more than just a simulator FSX is still the only one that can give you that somewhat realistic living real-world feeling

That is your perogative and choice. It is not a limitation of simulators.

True simulators do not give you "a purpose", though some elected to add game qualities for those that need someone else to provide motivation for them.

Case in point: RC Flight sims never had "goals", "points" nor "achievements". Some elected to add them once they started appearing on Steam but that was never the intent of the original program.

If you need a "purpose" you can jump on Vatsim or other services and try flying in a virtual sky crowded with ATC directing many other people at the same time.

Or you can recreate your own flights and timetables as you wish.

And stay FAR FAR AWAY FROM TRAIN SIMULATORS!!!

If this does not appeal to you, consider DCS instead which will let you blow up other planes and drop nasty things on virtual troops. It is a great military style sim with campaigns.

Try DCS WORLD - Best and most realistic Military simulator
BTZ Sep 29, 2018 @ 6:47am
Try Demo version of X-Plane. From out of the box it's superb, visuals, lighting, even smooth performance. On other hand I will not buy it, because vanilla level of simulation was pretty easy. No problem for me was to land cessna on any weather conditions using kb + mouse. That's why I'm stick with a P3D and addons like A2A, PMDG, Dash Q400 aircrafts, plus other mods which cost much, no, MUCH more than base game, bear this in mind when deciding to buy simulation game like great X-Plane or P3D. It's great great game out of the box, FSX, P3D V4 (vanilla), not even come close to this, it's absolutely worth of it's price, and you will get a lot of fun and challenges straight out of the box, without tons of mods and addons.

Most people who first use FSX or P3D fined Xplane “harder” due to better realism.

Real world pilots also prefer X-plane’s flight modeling, that is so accurate it has been used for the design of real planes.

I guess, that because they never tried A2A planes, or you typing, just to type, did you ever tried by your self any of that airplanes?

On AVERAGE, X-Plane's flight dynamics "feel" more realistic. I'm not a pilot, however - so I can't comment on how realistic they actually are. A2A planes, IMHO, are not average. They represent the best of what you can get out of P3D. Pretty much everything else in P3D just seems to feel "lifeless" by comparison with X-Plane. Milviz has a few nice birds as well.

My observations come by way of a reasonable amount of experience with BOTH sims. I own 2 recent A2A planes, about 10 other planes (Carenado, Milviz, Just Flight) in P3D and about double that in X-Plane and have probably about 500 hours total in both sims. I only recently got into using P3D after spending most of my time in X-Plane, although I had used FSX quite a bit many years ago.

As to which is "easier", I would have a hard time determining that. The flight dynamics are certainly "different". It seems to me that once you have the basic skills required for takeoff, controlled flight and landing, you simply adapt to the circumstances at hand. Again, I'm not a pilot, so to me the bigger challenge present in BOTH sims (equally, I would add), is learning about aviation. There certainly is a LOT to learn.

"You typing, just to type"...

I type all the time. But that has nothing to dio with X-Plane.

Fly a real plane and compared the flight dynamics on all the sims. X-plane comes out on top.

That is why it is used for predictive flight modeling and aircraft design.

I'm pilot with valid PPL license an IFR and night operations allowances, so can you please explain more about " It seems to me that once you have the basic skills "? But yeah, you right my flight time as a pilot in real life is smaller than your playtime.
