FMS not working
When I try to type something into the FMS it says not found in database. When it hit clear it says key not active. How do I fix this? Any help would be very much appreciated.

For your first question are you using the AIRAC that ships with XP?

EDIT: Don’t fly many aircraft with an FMC but if you’re getting that message about the key not being active you’re trying to tell it to do something that isn’t applicable to what you’re doing.

I am not using anything but X-Plane 11. Nothing else.

Let's start with what aircraft you are using..... I would assume the default XP provided 737. I'll be honest.... using the FMS has a pretty steep learning curve. You can find entire tutorials -- written and video -- that you can use to go through the process. There just is no getting around learnign it completely.

But, from your problem description, I am wondering if it isn't a data entry issue. Most of the FMS systems have a pretty cumbersome data entry process. You often have to clear (CLR) the scratchpad to enter anything.

But if it is that you are specifically trying to enter waypoints, and entering the data right but those points are "NOT FOUND" then it does sound like a navdata issue. Where are you getting the navaids from? Because that source might be on newer navdata than what ships with XP.

Try pressing the DEL key, yeah CLR makes more sense but it's worth a shot.

I have watched videos and do what they do but the clear button does nothing. Do you need to buy something to use FMS?

I use the FMC every day. If your getting "not in data base" then your information is wrong.

No, you don't need ti buy anything to use the FMS.... but you will need to subscribe to navdata if you expect it put in waypoints that exist only on newer navdata than what come with x-plane.

Most likely yes you need to buy airac cycle. The waypoints you're using should be from the same airac cycle as your xplane airac cycle. If you plan your flight with one cycle and then try to enter the waypoints into xplane FMC which uses a different cycle you could get this message.
In a few words: your flight planning software (or whatever you're using) and xplane airac cycles should match.
