Garmin GTN 750
Hello, just an FYI, the Garmin GTN 750 and 650 are on sale right now from Reality XP.
Speaking of which, I did pick up the GTN 750 and have spent several hours testing it out, making flight plans and approaches and such.
Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else using it out there are finding some bugs. For example, often I will reach a waypoint and then my NAV function just clicks off. Or, I'm either on an RNAV approach or ILS approach and I fail to capture the glide scope. Its also happening in more than one aircraft. Disclaimer: I am flying in VR and I am flying in Vulcan beta9, so this could have something to do with it, I guess.
I guess I'm curious if there are any Open GL players out there who find the GTN works perfectly, or if you have any such problems with it. Thank you.

I haven't had those issues with my GTN 750. You may be having the issues because of when you switch from NAV to APP. I find that I need to first change the autopilot from HDG over to NAV and then when intercepting the localizer or final approach path, as the CDI comes off the wall I switch over to APP mode.

Thanks for the suggestions, John. Will try that. Overall, I really like the 750.

I picked it up last week....Sweet set up. Even did my missed approach flawlessly.
I did notice if I submit an arrival airport and then choose a star and then an approach or just an approach; it wants to fly to the arriving airport first. I have to delete the arriving airport out of the route and then it is ok. But I think I am just programming it somehow wrong. Anyway I love the GTN750.
Comes default in the aerobask eclipse 550 but the realityXP one is far more detailed.

Yeah I absolutely love it too, I just can't seem to intercept the glide scope no matter what I do. I might try watch a YouTube video called precise Ils approach with the GTN 750, maybe that will have some pointers.

The ILS needs to be tuned and you have to press the approach mode on the AP to capture the glideslope and localizer.

The documentation that comes with the GTN 750 has a lot of information on how to use it. Watching some tutorial videos could also help BUT there is something that the GTN 750 is supposed to do but doesn't always. When flying on GPS mode on the GTN and having an ILS approached loaded and activated, the GTN is supposed to, at some point, automatically switch from GPS mode to VLOC mode. You have to make sure you already have the frequency loaded for the ILS. Normally that is automatically loaded into the standy NAV position and when the GTN switches over to VLOC it automatically switches the frequency (but not always). So just make sure to check that the ILS frequency is loaded and check to make sure you are in VLOC on the GTN when you are intercepting the localizer.

Also, when switching to VLOC you will need to set in the localizer course. The GTN doesn't do that automatically.

You guys know that you can insert airways also? The older GNS doesn't have this functionality, you have to enter the points manually that keep you on the airway. On top of being a touch screen this considerably cuts down on the time spent inserting a route. I just wish it had a crossfill functionally. I would love to have a second GTN set to the Default NAV page while flying along but sometimes I'm reluctant in entering the route again so I just set it to Terrain most of the time and leave it without a flight plan (it's nice to have while flying at night).

I read the whole Garmin manual and it does have crossfill function; but I'm not sure if it works on xplane. The manual I read was for the real GTN750 which Realityxp recommends reading. You might want to do some research on it.

It does yes, I have used it flying in reality. If I recall the GNS (the older unit in which the GTN replaced) from RealityXP does have this function but the Flight1 version doesn't. With the GTN both the RealityXP and Flight1 don't have this function. I honestly don't know what is better about the GTN from RealityXP. With the GNS it had more functions (the crossfill capability for example).

Thanks for all your input/advice. After hours and hours over the last few days, still can't seem to catch the glidescope even when the ILS is tuned and VLOC comes on. Tried so many variations, even tried tinkering with the settings, e.g. turning Master on/off a few times then back on, then clicked all the other boxes below. I always catch the glidescope using just native instruments built into the planes, oh well. Really love the device in every other way, maybe will just have to accept doing visual approaches.

I don't have the GTN for XP but I do P3D. If you would like I can do an ILS with the unit later and put up the video.

That would be highly appreciated. thanks.
It could be just one little thing I'm missing your video might help me catch.

Oh, I misread what you said. In VLOC your CDI isn't slaved to your GPS. So if you're on an approach it will at some point swap to VLOC.

VLOC just means the CDI is displaying information from ground stations like VORs (or in this context an ILS) and not what your GPS is showing.

If you have an ILS approach programmed the frequency will automatically be set to the standby NAV. There is more to an ILS approach than just keeping needles centered so I think I know where you're getting confused.

Press the middle of the knob on the bottom right to bring up the NAV radio and click the freq to set it as active and when it goes into VLOC it will bring you down if you're autopilot is in approach mode.

The ILS antennas at the airport can't feed the GPS lateral and vertical information, only a frequency can do that.
