20+ fps Drop with Vulkan
Hi !

I'm fully aware new tech rarely works out of the box and Vulkan in X-Plane 11.50 is no exception. From 40 fps using OpenGL, I got 14 fps using Vulkan !

My system uses Windows 10 Pro, i9 7900X, 32GB DDR4, GTX 1080 Ti, SSD.

Laminar Research, you've got more work to do and I'm happy to provide more details about my system if that would help.

I really hope they fix this issue because it's so sad to see this on a high end builds.

Under your Graphics settings, did you tick the checkbox that says 'Use Vulkan driver for faster rendering'?

Yes, that's exactly what preceded the drop in fps,

Also, I can no longer use the Index VR headset. I get an error message:
"Error reading joystick configuration:
Resources/joystick configs/Valve index - Windows.joy
Errors were:
Unknown button in configuration group 1 (Button 2)"

And I'm assuming you restarted your X-Plane 11 instance too.
I notice other high end NVIDIA users (1080ti, 2080ti) users are also getting FPS drops.
Can I suggest reporting this bug to the Devs.

Steve Walton uses VR too and a 1080ti. These were his experience below

Yes, restarted as per program's instructions, too. I shall report it, thanks.

Can I also suggest updating your Plugins where possible. I'm going through my list and updating to the latest (eg Fly with Lua - which i updated recently, Zibo mod is updated today, Better Pushback etc)

It's a rough start for this beta imo. There are lots of broken 3rd party ads with Vulkan it seems, on my setup anyhow. OrbX being the main one. I only fly in OrbX regions so this beta is a no go for me at the minute. I'll look have another look in a month or so to see if it's been ironed out. Kinda disappointed after a 2 year wait

After update, only 10 fps and unplayable. I re-install xplane but same 10fps.
then I stopped anti-virus software, i got smooth 30+ fps immediately.

i'm using windows 10 and ryzen1400 and rx570 4gb.

Did a test of taxi and takeoff at KBNA (Nashville, TN USA) in the Aerobask Eclipse 550 in both versions 11.41 and 11.50b3 with Vulkan enabled. System specs are i7-6850k CPU, 32 GB DDR4 RAM @ 3000 MHz, GTX Titan X (Pascal) GPU (12 GB VRAM) and 7200 RPM HDD, resolution set to 2560x1440 and high graphics options (AA and reflections running one notch below max).

11.41: averaged 22-24 FPS on taxi and takeoff roll, increasing to 35-40 FPS above 2000 feet
11.50b3: averaged 27-29 FPS on taki and takeoff roll, increasing to 45-55 FPS above 2000 feet

So I am seeing roughly 20% improvement in frame rates (not spectacular, but still respectable). Interesting for OP, since the Titan X is roughly equivalent to a 1080Ti in performance and OP has a newer CPU model. I think the performance boosts are most noticeable for older hardware than newer from what people seem to be posting.

I have made a backup of Custom Scenery & Resources/Plugins & Output/preferences, uninstalled the X Plane, completely deleted XPlane dir, then reinstalled X-Plane. Of course with no plugins and scenery I got insane above 60 FPS in Vulkan. Then started adding back the preferences, plugins and scenery. What is insane, FPS stayed almost the same, with everything maxed except AA and Reflections at 1. My only conclusion is that there was some crap in X-Plane installation.

Is still an i9-9900k a better choice than a Ryzen 3900x for X-Plane 11 with the 11.50b update?

im not sure why, if you say its unplayable after turning on vulcan, your disapointed so much you wont play it anymore, that you simply didnt turn vulcan back off and have it how it was before?

as for me.. i got +12 fps when i turned the option on.using a i7 with 1070.

Admittedly, last time I checked the difference was at a fairly simple airfield, but I went from 90fps to 130fps, and the only place I’ve seen it dip below 30 briefly was at San Francisco Intl.

Get rid of all custom addons and sceneries, then validate integrity of game files.

You've been asking upgrade questions since the last summer, will you buy a computer or not?
