Creating symlinks allows both a saving of space and FTX Central 3 to think your files are located where it originally installed them. Creating shortcuts wouldn't allow this to happen (i.e the Not Installed message will appear above the region if you create shortcuts).
Syntax of the Symlink command;
mklink /d "Drive and folder FTX Central 3 installed the Orbx Scenery to" "Drive and folder you moved the ORBX scenery to"
Once FTX Central 3 has finished downloading, extracting and converting the files, you need to move the folders from your Xplane 11 Custom Scenery folder into your Storage folder of choice before creating the symlinks. (I open 2 Explorer WIndows to make it easier to see what is happening).
I found it useful to create the commands first in a saved text file and just paste them into the command line. eg see below;
mklink /d "S:\Steam\steamapps\common\X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\Orbx_A_GB_South_TrueEarth_Custom" "H:\Storage\Games\Flight Simulators\X-Plane\Scenery\ORBX\Orbx_A_GB_South_TrueEarth_Custom"
mklink /d "S:\Steam\steamapps\common\X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\Orbx_B_GB_South_TrueEarth_Overlay" "H:\Storage\Games\Flight Simulators\X-Plane\Scenery\ORBX\Orbx_B_GB_South_TrueEarth_Overlay"
mklink /d "S:\Steam\steamapps\common\X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\Orbx_C_GB_South_TrueEarth_Orthos" "H:\Storage\Games\Flight Simulators\X-Plane\Scenery\ORBX\Orbx_C_GB_South_TrueEarth_Orthos"

" 1. Create an empty folder on any drive, I have made D:\X Plane 11 but the name does not matter.
2. Copy X-Plane.exe into that folder.
3. Edit C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\x-plane_install_11.txt to add that folder as a location
under the last line.
In this example, add "D:\X Plane 11" and save.
4. Then create a folder inside the new folder named Custom Scenery and either copy your scenery_packs.ini
file into it or create a new scenery_packs.ini file using Notepad.
This is only to prevent an FTX Central error message when the installation is finished and is not needed by X Plane 11.
FTX Central will then see both and install to either. "
I also suggest not to delete the X-Plane.exe if you want to get future updates.
I'm pretty sure I read that the next major revision of FTX Central will allow installation to a different drive a standard so hopefully these solutions won't be needed in the future.
You lost me after EASIEST ...
You quoted an old post. Central makes it very easy to link stuff up now. Simply make an Orbx Library on the drive you desire and when you install scenery it will ask if you want to install it into your sim or the library.
