Logitech x52 Professional HOTAS not compatible?? [SOLVED]
Hello,

I received the Logitech x52 Professional HOTAS as a Christmas present. However, when I loaded up my X-Plane 11 with the joystick and throttle plugged in, it appears there is no default configuration and an image does not show up. The weird part is that when I look at other videos with the same throttle, it SHOWS an image AND their joystick was already configured by default. Is there something that I dont know? Is the Saitek and Logitech version different? What should I do?

Many thanks ::)

You may have to remove the existing configuration file from your user folders to let X-plane set things up anew.

Also remember to use the pull down at the top of the Joystick section to select your Logitech.

It's picture may not be displayed by default.

Thank you for your help.

I am not sure what you mean by removing the existing configuration file from my users file. Do you mean the Saitek x52 Pro files in Resources > joystick config?

Also, when using the pull down, it only shows one option, which it says "X52 Professional H.O.T.A.S"

I believe that the files are in X-plane\Output\Preferences

You are looking for "X-plane Joystick Settings.prf". Save or move that file off somewhere else then restart X-plane.

Re: Pull down.

Yes that is it.

Select it and if there is a build in configuration for that joystick the image should appear.

Note that even if the image appears X-plane does not assign anything for you. It merely displays the buttons and axis. It is up to you to assign everything as you wish.

Alright, so I selected it but there is no image and no built in configuration..... which is odd because I've seen other videos with the same joystick as mine with an image and everything... ill link you to the video:

In comparison to what I get on screen:

I already put this on the questions support website for X-Plane, here is the link to that too:

Thank you :)

Looks like you to calibrate it before it is fully recognized. Click the calibrate button.

Don't worry, it is already calibrated. If it weren't calibrated, it would say "UNCALIBRATED DEVICE". However, they are not assigned to each axis or button. Thanks for trying to help though :)

It looks like your joystick is recognized but X-plane is missing the joystick configuration files.

Try assigning ANY button to something, then exit X-plane and look at the new .prf file it created looking specifically at the file name without the suffix.

Then look for the x52 profile that has a corresponding .png image.

You may need to rename the files.

I don't have your joystick so I can't help you more...

I had a similiar issue with my Saitek Pro Combat rudder pedals that did not have an image nor definitions in X-Plane, even though other Saitek pedals did.

I took the files for the other pedals and copied them using the name I found as above.

Then I edited the files to add an image of the Pro Combat pedals and finally played with the .XML file entries to position the visible "buttons" in the right places.

That worked great so now I can see my "unsupported" pedals in X-plane.

Hello,

Could you further describe what you did to your Saitek Pro Combat Rudder Pedals? I think the process might be applicable to my current situation. Thank you :)

See:

And

https://developer.x-plane.com/article/creating-joystick-configuration-joy-files/

I followed the above and merely made a copy of a fully supported setup, the modified that for mine.

Thank you !!! I had to change the "Name" section in the .joy file from Saitek x52 Pro to x52 Professional HOTAS and, once loaded, I clicked "Reset to Defaults" and it worked! Thank you again! :D

Great!

Please change the title of your first post and add [SOLVED] to it, so that other people may find the solution.

Hi novi,

I refer to your post above.

Hi, i'm having the same problem. Can you look in your Joysticks Configs folder and give me the exact file name. I changed mine to X52 Professional HOTAS.joy and I still don't get the images.

Much appreciated.

Hi, it's been quite a long time since I had this issue however I will try my best to help you.

I did not change the file name itself but the contents inside of the .joy file.

When you open up the .joy file in a text editor, change the "Name:" part to "X52 Professional HOTAS" instead of "Saitek x52 Pro" and that should do it.

I hope this helps.

Hi Novi,

Thanks for getting back to me. I went to the Resources/joystick config folder and edited the name within the Saitek X52 Pro Flight Control System - Win.joy file as you suggested and then re-started Xplane 11. Still the same.

All I see in the in game Settings -> Joystick device drop down box is X52 Professional H.O.T.A.S. . This leads me to think that the joy file above is not being seen by Xplane otherwise I'm sure the modified name should have shown up in the device drop down box.

Can I just ask you to have a look at your joystick config folder and confirm that you have the joy file I referred to paragraph 1 above.

Much appreciated. I have everything on my joy stick and throttle setup - but just for completeness I would like to see the proper images appear in the game joystick settings.

Regards,

Paddy

Make sure you have it in a USB connector and not in a multi USB connector. I had a multi connector and it gave me fits.
