Big FPS drop in flight
So I just bought the game. And i did two flights( i did not finish any of them). The reason why i did not finish them is that after a while in the flight my FPS drops to 15 from 40-50. I was also above the ocean so the scenery has nothing to do with it. But i noticed something in the plugins. There is a plugin called xlua and if I uncheck that my FPS goes back to normal. But also if I uncheck that my screens in the plane go black and i lose knobs. If anyone can help me with this problem. Thank you!

I checked all of the default LR aircraft and they all have the xlua plugin. Question, do you have flywithlua installed? I don't know if that is required for those aircraft. Perhaps someone could answer that question. But that would be my recommendation to go to x-plane.org and download and install the latest version of flywithlua to see if that solves the issue.

Another update to my problem. It seems that for now my problem is solved. I did another flight with flightplan FMC everything and i did not have any problem. So i think thta my problem was in the Nvidia settings.

I have tried serval things. I found if you reload your scenery (and plane) in the developer menu can fix the fps drop. My guess is the game wasn't designed to clear RAM automatically. By reloading scenery or plane can clear the ram in-game. Try it out yourself. See if it works

I share a lot of your FPS frustrations with Xplane as noted above. I think a lot of you are gonna be a lot happier (hopefully in the very near future) as Xplane Vulcan is now in Beta9. I'm using it and no, I haven't gone from 25 to 200 FPS or anything like that, but its substantial, in my opinion. I play in VR and its like a whole new sim to me. I've got my graphics turned way up and in VR now, I'm come gliding into the airports nice and smooth and am seeing all the homes, skyscrapers, other details. I love Vulcan so much Xplane is all I've been playing the last couple of weeks. Don't want to go back to OpenGL.

On my part, the fps moves up and down mid-flight but I think it has something to do with the clouds. I remember adding a cloud enhancement mod, but it turned out bad because it would always kill my fps just after take off. I couldn't fully uninstall it so I deleted some folders and updated my xplane which would download the missing folder I deleted. But at this point, I have no idea if I'm now fully on vanilla clouds.

Also, I'm using real matched weather that updates every 15 minutes. So mid-flight, every 15 minutes my game's fps drops as it "refreshes" the clouds.

Sometimes though my game crashes at final. But that's due to some huge scenery I have to the arrival airport.

Other than that, my fps is around 25-30. Low, but I can't say its irritating at that range.

Jangled, assuming you're not on the beta, you're going to be even happier with the release of 11.50 Vulcan. Hopefully soon as the beta is really stable for me.

Okay, so I've had a similar issue flying the included 747-400. It uses the Xlua plugin which seems to be an aircraft plugin made to make making aircraft easier reducing the amount of code used. I found a weird coincidence that it used MORE resources when over the ocean although this might have just been a coincidence. What I did find helped was reloading the aircraft mid-flight, this resets the plugins and as it seems this plugin takes up more and more CPU/GPU as time passes. You can't disable the plugin as it is an aircraft plugin and disabling it breaks the screens inside. As for the people saying "this game sucks" and "the community/developers aren't helpful" you can just go and do something else, did you even try to contact laminar or god forbid DO ANY RESEARCH? Ok now I'm being a little salty cause I love this game haha sorry. Anyways yeah reloading the aircraft seems like a viable solution which gives you maybe 1.5 hours of flight time until you gotta do it again. Do note that this RESETS the entire plane, fms autopilot and all with it so you gotta set that up again however your position etc. doesn't change. I think there is a bug in the program causing it to use more and more resources essentially overtaking x plane itself in resource using if you let a flight run for long enough. Another solution is just not resetting and rather turning off the plugin in cruise when you dont really need fully functional knobs/displays. I have flown the standard 737 which also seems to have this plugin and my flights with that tend to be around 2-3 hours and I've never experienced problems with that. Do note that all aircraft dont use this plugin and the zibo-mod 737 doesnt seem to have this, added that plane is also THE BEST FREEWARE AIRCRAFT EVER, in my opinion so go check that out. Anyways I hope this helped somewhat and I know that it isn't perfect but hey it's better than -30fps cause of some lazy coding lol.
