Do you keep your old Orthophoto jpegs (Ortho 4XP)?
Hi Everyone,

I downloaded Orthphoto 4XP today and after five or six hours, I got my first tile to work. You really need to want an orthophoto for this to work because it takes time to figure this all out. It became a battle; l;uckily I had the day off. I was hampered for a while because I was getting messages about a missing dds file or something. I had no such file to give it, so I just grabbed random dds file in the folder and renamed it to whatever it was asking for. This was a quick fix that worked on the spot; I'm not sure if there is a better way. I also don't know why I would be missing a file.

Anyway, I copied the Z_North Carolina to CS Folder, then I copied the overlays. Everything works great, and it was worth the work. Now, all that remains of my nemesis is a folder called orthophotos which has a bunch of jpegs in there. What do I do with those? Is there a reason to save those? I think I have everything I need in my CS folder now.

I can't remember if that folder can be deleted - I'll check later. I know previews can be deleted.

I believe that once you complete your area and move the folder created under 'tiles' to your xplane custom scenery folder you can safely delete anything that was created in other ortho4xp folders, including the folder created under orthophotos. Anything left in those ortho4xp folders are used only for reference.
Ah I see what these are. These are the raw .jpg files that Ortho4XP downloads. The ones in the tiles folder are exactly the same, but in a readable and scaleable .dds format. If you want to re-build a tile, having the Orthophotos folder will help to speed things up. If you just discovered how much storage space you can get back by deleting the folder like I just did (7.53GB (!)), then you may do just that.

IMPORTANT (I forgot about this!): ONLY DELETE THE PREVIEWS INSIDE THE Previews FOLDER. DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER 'Earth' INSIDE Previews, OR YOU WON'T HAVE AN EARTH TILE MAP!
