Cessna Yaw Control
I use a Thrustmaster joystick that works fine with FSX, etc and thus far have avoided purchasing rudder pedals. I have also flown a actual Cessna. I also realize X-plane chooses to be more realistic. Nonethess when I rev up the engine on the game Cessna my brakes squeal like crazy and I amble all over the runway. Sure I could just practice 50 hours or maybe buy pedals... But was wondering if their was a lazy old guys fix on the yaw control option to reduce this pretty excessive left pull. It seems much better on a twin of course and also the jets which I compared. I just wanted to use the Cessna to start as I get more familiar with the game. I have used FSX since the first one came out! Not a pro- but pretty regularly fly the Lear or 737... On FSX. Thanks for any advise. X-plane is pretty good in any event.

That's one of the annoying sound in X-Plane, the unrealistic screetching of tyres, but if you buy the airfoillabs cessna or use the older carenado cessna that annoying sound disappear. I have the old saitek cessna pedals and its worth having it.

This is something I have also found with the Cessna in X-Plane 11. I am using a Thurstmaster 16000m and use the twist grip for the rudder. On take off there is harsh pull to the left and sometimes to the right. I can take off, but I have never taken off center on the runway, always veer.

Anyway to correct?

You could try setting rudder trim to compensate for the pull. The C 172 will naturally pull to the left due to engine torque (since it is a single engine aircraft); pull on 2 engine aircraft are usually cancelled out by the engines each acting on another. Cross wind takeoffs (and landings) can also cause some drift as well. The screeching sound has been previously commented on as something we need to live with on default aircraft.

In FSX there is an autorudder option which automatically adjusts for engine torque--that is probably why you don't run into drift on takeoff/landing in that sim.

I have found that advancing the throttle gradually makes it easier to adjust rudder to keep the aircraft on the centerline on takeoff. I use a Thrustmaster 16000m with throttle and map the paddle wheel on the throttle to the rudder controls, so I haven't found it necessary to buy rudder pedals to enjoy X Plane.

Thank you.

Stupid question. How do you map the throttle wheel to rudder controls?

Click on Settings (icon that looks like 3 sliders next to each other) and then select Joystick tab. Use drop down to find you throttle and then configure the wheel from there.

It is a trivial thing, but does the Cessna 172SP with the REP create a new 172 entry on the plane selection screen? And can the livery of that plane be edited?

Is there an autorudder option in x-plane 11?
